North Goa SP Nidhin Valsan, IPS, took to X (Twitter) to praise Ms. Surekha Shankar Yadav, the first woman loco pilot of the Vande Bharat Express, calling her achievement a testament to breaking of barriers and advancement of gender equality in the transportation industry. He also posted photographs of her at the helm of the Vande Bharat Express.
He wrote: “Ms. Surekha Shankar Yadav made history as the first woman to become a train driver and operate the indigenous Vande Bharat Express. Her remarkable achievement is a testament to breaking barriers and advancing gender equality in the transportation industry.”
Surekha Shankar Yadav is also Asia’s first woman loco pilot. Her hometown is Satara in Maharashtra and she is a diploma holder in Mechanical Engineering from Government Polytechnic, Karad, Satara. She is married to police officer Shankar Yadav and is a mother of two sons. She is a proud recipient of numerous awards, including Women Achievers Award by the Lions Club of India and the Lokmat Sakhi Award.
