Patna: Bihar continued its strict enforcement of the state’s prohibition policy in July, carrying out 1,21,199 raids against the illegal manufacture, sale, transportation and storage of liquor. The month-long drive was conducted by the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department in coordination with the police.

The statewide crackdown led to the registration of 11,586 cases, the arrest of more than 13,000 people, and the seizure of large quantities of illegal liquor and vehicles.

Nearly 7 Lakh Litres of Liquor Seized

During the enforcement drive, officials seized 6,94,355 litres of illegal liquor, including both country-made liquor and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

Authorities also confiscated more than 1,000 vehicles, including 809 two-wheelers, besides three-wheelers, four-wheelers and trucks allegedly used in transporting illegal liquor.

11,586 Cases Registered, Over 13,000 Arrested

The department said 11,586 cases were registered under the prohibition law during July. More than 13,000 people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the manufacture, transportation, storage and sale of illicit liquor.

Officials said coordinated action between the Excise Department and the police has strengthened enforcement across the state.

Technology Strengthens Enforcement

To make enforcement more effective, the department is focusing on the prompt disposal of complaints, regular raids and continuous monitoring.

Authorities are deploying drones to monitor remote areas, while motorboats are being used to keep watch on river routes and prevent liquor smuggling through waterways.

Why It Matters

The latest figures highlight Bihar’s continued focus on enforcing prohibition through coordinated action and technology-driven surveillance. The sustained crackdown aims to dismantle illegal liquor networks, strengthen law enforcement and improve public safety across the state.
