A new wave of industrial progress is set to transform Wazirganj block in the Gaya district in Bihar. The Birla Cement Group has announced plans to establish a modern cement plant on a 50-acre site in Kolhana. This development is expected to catalyze long-awaited regional growth and industrialization, signaling a turning point for the local economy.
Government Support Accelerates Land Acquisition and Project Approval
With active support from local and state authorities, the Birla Group successfully completed the land acquisition process, clearing a key hurdle in project implementation. Officials have confirmed that construction will commence as soon as all departmental approvals are finalized. The project exemplifies public-private cooperation aimed at promoting regional development and infrastructure modernization.
Employment Opportunities to Empower Local Youth
The cement plant is expected to generate between 1,200 and 1,500 jobs during both the construction and operational phases. Mr. Birla, representing the company, stated that local youth will be given priority in employment. This initiative is projected to reduce migration to urban centers and empower the local workforce, improving social and economic conditions across Wazirganj.
Boosting Local Economy and Business Ecosystem
Beyond direct employment, the plant is anticipated to stimulate ancillary economic activities. Local businesses including transportation services, grocery stores, construction supply vendors, hotels, and restaurants are expected to experience increased demand. This ripple effect will strengthen the overall economic ecosystem, providing a sustained boost to regional commerce and development.
Project Timeline and Investment Details
Company officials have revealed that the project will proceed in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion between October and December 2027. The total proposed investment is Rs. 860 crore, highlighting the scale and economic significance of this initiative. Once operational, the plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 2.08 million tons, positioning Wazirganj as a key industrial hub.
Sustainability Measures: Solar Plant Integration
In a bid to promote sustainable industrial practices, the project will include a Rs. 250 crore solar plant on the campus. This eco-friendly initiative reflects the company’s commitment to balancing industrial growth with environmental stewardship, aligning with broader state policies for sustainable development.
