The 25-year-old Mumbai-based bowler, representing Baroda in domestic tournaments, played a pivotal role in India’s first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup triumph. The team defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final held at Navi Mumbai on November 2, 2025, under the captaincy of Ms. Harmanpreet Kaur.
Mr. Patel expressed his pride on social media, sharing, “India’s daughters have made the country proud by winning the Women’s World Cup. Spoke to Radha Yadav in Gandhinagar, a key member of the winning team who hails from Baroda. Congratulated her on her victory and excellent performance, and wished her all the best for the future.”
From Near Misses to Historic Victory
India’s women’s cricket team had previously reached the World Cup final twice but fell short on both occasions. In 2005, under Ms. Mithali Raj’s leadership, India lost to Australia by 98 runs in South Africa. In 2017, the team lost a thrilling final against England by nine runs on home soil.
This 2025 victory marks a historic milestone, ending decades of near misses and establishing India as a dominant force in women’s international cricket. The triumph also reflects the growth and development of women’s sports in India, supported by progressive policies, increased investment, and grassroots programs in states like Gujarat.
Strengthening Sports Development and Female Representation
Mr. Patel’s felicitation of Ms. Yadav underscores the government’s commitment to promoting sports excellence and inspiring young athletes, especially women, across the state. Gujarat’s sports infrastructure, along with initiatives to recognize and reward sporting talent, aligns with national efforts to empower female athletes and encourage participation in international competitions.
The Chief Minister’s acknowledgment not only honors Ms. Yadav’s individual achievement but also serves as a motivational milestone for aspiring cricketers in Gujarat and across India.
A Role Model for Aspiring Athletes
Ms. Radha Yadav’s journey from domestic cricket in Baroda to lifting the World Cup reflects perseverance, skill, and dedication. By celebrating her success, Gujarat sets an example of how government support and recognition of sporting talent can drive national pride and inspire the next generation of athletes.
