In a major step toward strengthening cross-border connectivity and rural infrastructure, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Khatima–Melaghat State Highway (SH-107). The project, approved at a cost of Rs. 2089.74 lakh, is expected to be a milestone in border area development and regional integration.

The ceremony began with a traditional puja, after which the Chief Minister formally launched the reconstruction works. The scope of the project includes 11.5 km of road reconstruction, development of drainage systems, road safety features, and installation of road signage.

Key Link for Trade, Tourism, and Education Along the India–Nepal Border

Addressing the public at Melaghat Government Primary School, Mr. Dhami described the Khatima–Melaghat road as a critical link not just for local mobility but also for India–Nepal cross-border trade, tourism, and educational access.

“This road will greatly ease transportation for the residents of Khatima and neighboring villages, while opening new avenues in trade and education with our border regions,” said Mr. Dhami. He further stressed the government’s focus on ensuring long-term durability by integrating erosion control measures and efficient drainage systems.

Khatima Emerging as an Educational Hub

Highlighting the social development taking place in Khatima, the Chief Minister shared that the region has now become a center for educational excellence, attracting students from across the state and neighboring areas of Nepal.

He emphasized the role of improved infrastructure in supporting educational mobility, especially in rural and border areas, thereby creating new opportunities for youth and contributing to regional upliftment.

Connectivity as the Backbone of Development: CM Aligns with PM Modi’s Vision

Reaffirming the state’s alignment with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision of connectivity as the backbone of development, Mr. Dhami stated that Uttarakhand is witnessing a rapid expansion and modernization of roads in all districts. He also issued instructions to ensure pothole-free road infrastructure, especially ahead of the festive season.

Community Engagement and Festive Appeal

Concluding his address, the Chief Minister extended Diwali and festival greetings to the gathered citizens. He encouraged collective responsibility in maintaining peace, harmony, and cleanliness during the festive period.

The event saw the presence of several dignitaries including District Panchayat President Mr. Ajay Maurya, Ms. Mohini Pokhariya, Mr. Ramesh Chandra Joshi, and senior officials such as District Magistrate Mr. Nitin Bhadoria, SSP Mr. Manikant Mishra, among others.
