New Delhi: NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has handed over four electric vehicles to the Auroville Foundation under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, with a total outlay of ₹21 lakh.
The electric vehicles have been dedicated to support sustainable internal transportation for residents of Auroville as well as visitors. The initiative reflects NLCIL’s focus on promoting environmentally responsible mobility through its CSR activities.
NLC India Supports Sustainable Mobility at Auroville
The four electric vehicles are intended to facilitate internal transit within Auroville while supporting cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
The CSR initiative focuses on:
- Promoting electric mobility
- Supporting sustainable internal transportation
- Providing mobility support to Auroville residents
- Facilitating transportation for visiting guests
- Encouraging environmentally responsible practices
With an investment of ₹21 lakh, the initiative adds to efforts aimed at promoting cleaner transportation solutions.

Senior Officials Present at Handover
The handover programme was attended by senior representatives from NLC India, the Auroville Foundation and other organisations.
Those present included:
- Jayanti S. Ravi, Secretary, Auroville Foundation
- Suresh Chandra Suman, Director, NLCIL
- S. Selvaganabathy, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament
- V. Ananda Reddy, Director, Sri Aurobindo Centre for Advanced Research (SACAR)
The participation of representatives from different institutions highlighted the collaborative nature of the initiative.
CSR Initiative Promotes Green Transportation
The deployment of electric vehicles is expected to support Auroville’s internal transportation requirements while reducing dependence on conventional fuel-based vehicles.
The initiative also aligns with the broader focus on adopting cleaner and more sustainable mobility solutions and demonstrates how CSR programmes can support environmental objectives alongside community needs.
