CSE 2021 Service Allocation: 18 from Top 20 Take IAS, Rank 24 First IFS in List

Indian Masterminds Stories

The Department of Personnel and Training of Government of India has allocated services to the candidates who qualified in the Civil Services Examination 2021 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Of the total of 685 candidates who qualified, only 586 have been allocated the services as of now, as per the list released by the P&T department. The service allocation list can be downloaded from the official website: @cseplus.nic.in.

WHO GOT WHAT

Predictably, as per the last few years’ trends, this year too, as many as 18 out of the top 20 were allocated IAS. At the same time, Awate Amol Shantaram, a general category candidate who had secured AIR 678, was also allocated IAS, as he suffers from multiple disabilities and he availed the quota in that category.

As per the list, 150 have been allocated IAS, 199 IPS, 90 IRS, 34 IFS, 19 IA&AS, 10 ICAS, 7 IDES, 9 IPOS, 8 DANIPS, 22 IDAS, 2 ITS, 4 DANICS, 1 PONDICS and 9 ICLS.

FIRST IFS IN LIST IS AIR 24

In the general category, up to AIR 77 have been allocated IAS while in OBC category, Rank 333 was allocated IAS. Once the most sought after service, Indian Foreign Service (IFS) has taken a backseat this time, too, as no one in the top 20 opted for it, it seems. AIR 24 Pusapati Sahitya of General Category is the first in the list to be allocated IFS, while Rank 643 Karanbir Singh Chohan of general category was allocated IFS in OH (orthopaedically handicapped) category. In the ST category, ranks up till 655 got IPS.

HOW SERVICES ARE ALLOCATED

While allocating services to any category, many factors are taken into consideration. They are:

  1. The rank of the candidate in the CSE.
  2. Candidate’s order of preference for service.
  3. Candidate’s category like General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.
  4. Availability of vacancy in the candidate’s category.
  5. Findings of the Medical Board/Appellate Board with respect to the candidate.
  6. If a candidate does not give preferences for all the civil services, and he/she doesn’t get the services for which he/she had given preferences, then he/she will be considered for the remaining services where there are vacancies after the allocation to all the candidates, who could be allocated to cadres according to their preferences.
