DM Intervenes to Help Farmers Avail PM Scheme

When DM of Kheri, UP, got to know that some farmers in his district were not being able to avail a PM scheme, he immediately intervened. He found out that they were not getting the monetary benefit of the scheme because their tehsil was new and yet to be registered on PM kisan portal. He took up the matter with higher authorities and personally followed it up until the tehsil’s name got included on the portal and the farmers could apply for the benefit.

When 2011-batch IAS officer and Kheri DM Mahendra Bahadur Singh came to know that some farmers in his district were being deprived of a Prime Minister’s scheme, he immediately intervened to help them.

9379 farmers of 14 villages of Tehsil Mitauli were not getting the benefit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, because the newly created tehsil was not visible on the PM kisan portal.

To solve this problem, the officer not only corresponded with the Additional Chief Secretary (Agriculture) of the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agriculture Welfare, Government of India, but made many personal interventions. Indian Masterminds interacted with DM Mahendra Bahadur Singh to know more about the issue and how it was solved.

WHAT THE SCHEME IS ABOUT

Agriculture is said to be the backbone of India’s economy. That is why, with the aim of providing financial assistance to the farmers of the country, an assistance of Rs. 6000 is provided to the farmers in a year, under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana’. The amount is transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries in three equal installments.

MITAULI TEHSIL NOT VISIBLE ON PM PORTAL

Talking to Indian Masterminds, Mr. Singh said, “To get the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, eligible farmers need to apply online on PM Kisan Portal. However, Mitauli tehsil was not visible on the portal as it has been newly created. But now, thankfully, after taking it up with the appropriate authorities, the tehsil is visible.”

Everyone who is eligible for this scheme can now submit their online applications along with relevant documents. They will start getting the benefit after eligibility check and verification.

“The reason why the farmers here were not getting the benefit till now is, many revenue villages of the newly created Mitauli tehsil were not mapped on the Government of India portal. As a result, Mitauli tehsil was not visible on the PM kisan portal, due to which these farmers could not be verified. But now, the way has been cleared for 9379 farmers of 14 villages of Mitauli to get the benefit of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi,” Mr. Singh said.

The officer corresponded with the Additional Chief Secretary (Agriculture) of the UP Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agriculture Welfare, Government of India, to solve the problem, and personally followed it up till it was done.

FARMERS CAN APPLY NOW

DM Singh appealed to all the farmers of the district to submit their online applications along with the relevant documents. “Benefiting eligible farmers with the scheme is one of the top priorities of the Central government as well as the government of Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

Due to his personal intervention, the farmers will start getting the money laid out in the scheme especially for them. Earlier, the farmers of these 14 villages of Mitauli tehsil had made several rounds of the district headquarters to solve theproblem but could not succeed. Then, DM Singh stepped in and made sure that Mitouli tehsil got registered on the PM portal and cleared the way for these farmers to apply for the scheme benefit.

As a result, a total of 6 lakh 49 thousand farmers now stand to benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in the district.
