The glorious, though ancient, heritage of Bihar still carries a tremendous magnetic pull. Historians and travellers down the ages have sung paeans to magnificence. Among the few die-hards who have been working ceaselessly to reclaim for Bihar its last glory is senior IPS officer Mr Vikas Vaibhav.

WHEN A WISH COMES TRUE
With that sharp and curious glint in his eyes, the young Frank Noronha saw an impressive-looking cavalcade of cars swooshing past him on the concrete road. His father told him that (then) Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was travelling in one of the vehicles. “Why aren’t you in this convoy,’’ the boy asked his father, a teacher. The elder man smiled at his son and told him that if he studied well and became successful, he too could be sitting in one of those cars one day.

RURAL PURNEA GETS A FACELIFT
Parks, pathway and people doing exercise in the open are a common sight in cities and urban areas. But generally not so in the rural regions- this despite the facts that in and around village there is often lot of green space for these activities. But like urban centers, people living in villages also need place where they could for a morning or evening walks. With these thoughts, the District Collector of Purnea, Mr Rahul Kumar has started a multipurpose program under the `Jal Jeevan Hariyali Mission’ and some other Government schemes.

TURNING AROUND NILGIRI TEA INDUSTRY
Tea is a staple beverage the world around. It’s not only a stress-buster and anti-oxidant but also known for its aroma and taste. However, Indian tea was synonymous with Darjeeling and Assam Tea. Not, anymore. Nilgiri tea, grown on Western Ghats in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, is now rubbing shoulders with the best tea in the world. Thanks to Ms Supriya Sahu, Principal Secretary, Forest and Environment of Tamil Nadu Government who is also CEO of Indcoserve, India’s largest tea cooperative federation.

COLLECTOR FOR A DAY
On the International Girl Child Day recently, the District Collector of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh took a decision that reminded the nation of the 2001 Anil Kapoor movie, Nayak! Recalling the good old movie, it portrayed the story of a common journalist who was made the Chief Minister of the state for one day and strived hard to remove corruption.
