In a bustling town of Haryana, where the fields echo with the sounds of tractors and the air is filled with the earthy aroma of rich soil, Dr. Rajesh Mohan’s journey from a medical practitioner to an IPS officer unfolded in a tale of resilience, determination, and a passion for service. A beacon of inspiration for aspirants eyeing the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination, Dr. Mohan’s story is a testament to the transformative power of perseverance.

Speaking to Indian Masterminds, Dr. Mohan shared about the challenging journey that ultimately led to UPSC success.

DOCTOR TURNED IPS

A medical graduate, Dr. Rajesh Mohan’s initial foray into the world of UPSC was met with challenges that tested his mettle. Undeterred by the setbacks, he persisted through five attempts, each time coming closer to his dream. With unwavering dedication, he delved into the intricacies of the examination, deciphering the nuances of question patterns and gleaning insights into the vast expanse of knowledge required for success.

The turning point came in his fifth attempt when he secured an All India Rank of 102, clinching IPS and his home cadre, Haryana. The arduous journey, filled with moments of self-reflection and growth, paved the way for Dr. Mohan to not only achieve his goal but also acquire a profound understanding of the examination’s demands.

Beyond the triumph of securing a coveted position, Dr. Rajesh Mohan’s post-selection focus has expanded beyond the intellectual domain. Emphasizing the importance of physical and mental well-being, he underscores the role of a healthy lifestyle in sustaining the rigors of a demanding profession.

TRAINING PHASE

Post selection, Dr. Mohan underwent training at the prestigious Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), a crucible that shaped his transformation. Divided into three phases, the training encompassed a foundational course at LBSNAA, 11 months of Phase 1 at the academy, and a practical stint in various districts for District Practical Training (DPT).

“The rigorous training included an independent charge of a police station, state academy visits, and attachments with key administrative offices, fostering a holistic understanding of the responsibilities that come with the badge,” the officer shared with Indian Masterminds.

CO-AUTHORED A BOOK

In his newfound role, Dr. Rajesh Mohan draws upon his medical background to contribute to society in multifaceted ways. Having co-authored a book on ethics titled ‘ETHICS Made Easy: A Unique Approach to GS Paper-IV’, he shares his insights with the aim of guiding future aspirants. The book has been written co-authored by him and former DGP of Uttarakhand, IPS officer Ashok Kumar. “We are planning for another book on international relations soon,” Dr. Mohan shared.

As Dr. Mohan reflects on the five years spent in CSE preparation, he sees them not as wasted time but as a transformative period that shaped his character.
