Govt Extends Tenure of Additional Charge for IAS Officers Bala Kiran, Hemalatha & Navjot Khosa Under Central Staffing Scheme

ACC Approves Extensions for Senior IAS Officers in Key Posts. Bala Kiran Gets One-Year Extension at NRA; Hemalatha, Khosa Also Continue

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved multiple proposals for extension of additional charge and central deputation tenure of senior IAS officers across key government departments.

The decisions relate to senior officers from the Kerala and Karnataka cadres serving in important administrative and regulatory roles.

P. Bala Kiran Gets One-Year Extension at National Recruitment Agency

The ACC has approved the proposal of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for extension of entrustment of additional charge of the post of Secretary-cum-Controller of Examination (Joint Secretary level) at the National Recruitment Agency (NRA) to P. Bala Kiran, IAS (Kerala cadre: 2008).

Currently serving as Joint Secretary in the DoPT, Bala Kiran will continue to hold the additional charge:

  • For a period of one year beyond January 21, 2026,
  • Or until the appointment of a regular incumbent,
  • Or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Earlier in January this year, the Central Government had also approved the extension of his central deputation by two years beyond February 28, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

P. Hemalatha’s Additional Charge at Spices Board Extended

The government has also approved the proposal of the Department of Commerce to extend the additional charge of the post of Secretary (Joint Secretary level), Spices Board, to P. Hemalatha, IAS (Karnataka cadre: 2000).

Hemalatha is currently serving as Development Commissioner, Cochin Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Her additional charge has been extended:

  • For six months with effect from January 24, 2026, to July 23, 2026,
  • Or until appointment of a regular incumbent,

Or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Navjot Khosa’s Central Deputation Extended Till December 2027

In another decision, the ACC approved the extension of central deputation tenure under the Central Staffing Scheme of Navjot Khosa, IAS (Kerala cadre: 2012).

Khosa is currently serving as:

  • Director of Census Operations (DCO)
  • Director of Citizen Registration (OCR), Punjab & Chandigarh

Her deputation tenure has been extended:

  • Beyond March 31, 2026,
  • Up to December 31, 2027,
  • Or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

She has been on central deputation with effect from December 19, 2022.

Administrative Continuity in Key Roles

The latest ACC decisions ensure continuity in key administrative and regulatory positions, including recruitment reforms, export promotion through the Spices Board, and census and citizen registration operations in Punjab and Chandigarh.

The extensions come as part of routine administrative approvals aimed at maintaining stability in critical governance functions.
