What Does Temporary Upgradation of a Post Mean?
Temporary upgradation is an administrative arrangement under which a sanctioned government post is upgraded to a higher level for a specified period, subject to the necessary approvals.
Such approvals may be granted to align a post with the level of an officer holding it or to meet particular administrative requirements.
An extension of temporary upgradation does not, by itself, necessarily constitute a fresh appointment or an extension of the officer’s overall tenure in the organisation. It specifically concerns the approved status of the post for the period mentioned in the order.
In the present case, five existing temporary upgradation arrangements have been extended, while one new arrangement has been approved for Ms Varsha Joshi.
The six approvals cover IAS officers from the 1991 to 1998 batches, serving in organisations with responsibilities ranging from recruitment and productivity promotion to internal administration and central government coordination.
