New Delhi: In a major push towards the digital transformation of India’s traditional healthcare system, the Ministry of Ayush has partnered with IndiaAI, an initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the Ayush ecosystem. The collaboration aims to strengthen research, improve digital health infrastructure and encourage innovation in traditional medicine.

The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to accelerate AI-driven solutions in key areas such as research, medicinal plants, drug administration and capacity building. The initiative is expected to make the Ayush ecosystem more technology-enabled while preserving and advancing India’s traditional knowledge systems.

AI to Power the Future of Ayush

The partnership seeks to combine the strengths of traditional medicine with modern AI technologies to improve healthcare research and service delivery.

Under the agreement, AI will be used to support:

  • Evidence-based research in Ayush
  • Digital knowledge management
  • Medicinal plant research
  • Drug administration and healthcare applications
  • Skill development and capacity building
  • AI-powered innovation across the Ayush ecosystem

The government believes the collaboration will help researchers, practitioners and institutions adopt advanced technologies while improving the quality and accessibility of traditional healthcare research.

Ayush to Join AIKosh Platform

One of the key highlights of the agreement is the integration of the Ministry of Ayush with the AIKosh platform, India’s national repository for AI-related datasets and research resources.

Through AIKosh, the ministry will share eligible:

  • Health research datasets
  • Metadata
  • AI models
  • Toolkits
  • Research use cases

This is expected to encourage collaboration among researchers, developers and healthcare institutions while supporting the responsible development of AI applications for traditional medicine.

Boost for AI Research Infrastructure

The MoU also provides the Ayush ecosystem with access to GPU-based and high-performance computing infrastructure under the IndiaAI Mission at subsidised rates, subject to service-level agreements.

Advanced computing resources are expected to help researchers process large datasets, develop sophisticated AI models and scale digital healthcare applications more efficiently. The move addresses one of the major challenges in AI research—access to affordable computing infrastructure—and is expected to accelerate innovation across the sector.

Strengthening Evidence-Based Traditional Medicine

Officials said integrating AI into Ayush will open new opportunities for scientific validation and evidence-based research. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, said Artificial Intelligence can strengthen research, innovation and knowledge management while making the Ayush ecosystem more future-ready.

Sudeep Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer of the IndiaAI Mission, said the collaboration would enrich the AIKosh platform with traditional healthcare datasets and empower researchers working in traditional medicinal sciences through AI-enabled innovation. Meanwhile, Naman Goyal, OSD, Ayush Grid, noted that AI-driven platforms are already being developed under the Emerging Technologies component of Ayush Grid, and the new partnership will further accelerate the sector’s digital transformation.

Why This Partnership Matters

The partnership marks a major step in integrating Artificial Intelligence with India’s traditional medicine systems. By strengthening research, digital infrastructure and innovation, it aims to make the Ayush ecosystem more evidence-based and technology-driven. The initiative also supports India’s vision of becoming a global leader in AI-powered healthcare while creating new opportunities for researchers, startups and digital health innovators.
