New Delhi: Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has started exploring the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in mining operations as part of its efforts to make mining activities more sustainable, energy-efficient and technology-driven.
BCCL organised a workshop-cum-seminar on “Adoption of Electric Vehicles in Mining Operations” at Coal Bhawan Headquarters to examine the feasibility and practical roadmap for deploying electric mobility across mining and allied activities.
BCCL Holds Workshop on EV Adoption in Mining
The workshop brought together BCCL officials, contractors, EV manufacturers and technology companies to discuss the potential use of electric vehicles in mining operations.

- R.K. Sinha, General Manager (Excavation)
- R.K. Karna, General Manager (Electrical and Mechanical)
- Other BCCL officials and stakeholders
Representatives from BCCL contractors, including RA Mining, STG Associate, Hilltop Hirise, BLA Infra and Ambey Mining Pvt. Ltd., also participated in the discussions.
EV Companies Showcase Technologies and Charging Solutions
Leading EV and technology companies participated in the workshop through offline and online modes. These included:
- BEML
- Propel India
- L&T
- Montra Electric
- Volvo
- MACO
The participating companies showcased their latest electric vehicle technologies and charging solutions and discussed their suitability for mining applications.
Safety, Charging Infrastructure and Economic Viability Discussed
BCCL presented its approach towards introducing electric vehicles in mining activities and highlighted their potential benefits in terms of energy efficiency, cleaner operations and long-term sustainability.
The discussions covered several key aspects of EV deployment in mining, including:
- Operational safety
- Charging infrastructure
- Technical suitability
- Energy efficiency
- Economic viability
- Practical deployment requirements
- Long-term sustainability
The workshop provided an opportunity for BCCL officials, contractors and EV manufacturers to exchange technical inputs and examine the prospects of adopting safe, practical and economically viable electric mobility solutions for mining operations.
BCCL Focuses on Sustainable and Technology-Driven Mining
The initiative is part of BCCL’s broader efforts to accelerate technological advancement and adoption of sustainable solutions in mining.
The workshop was organised by BCCL’s Contract Management Cell (CMC) as directed by Coal India Limited (CIL). Through such initiatives, BCCL is examining new technologies that could support cleaner and more energy-efficient mining operations.
