New Delhi: BEML Limited, a Bengaluru-based defence public sector undertaking, has appointed Mr. Shankar Lal Agrawal, Mr. Karunakaran Nambiar K. and Promila Kundara as Independent Directors (Non-Official Directors) on its Board.
The appointments were disclosed by BEML in a regulatory filing on Friday. The three appointees bring diverse experience spanning education, social welfare, legal practice, cooperative institutions, public service and community development.
Shankar Lal Agrawal: Experience in Social and Community Development
Mr. Shankar Lal Agrawal holds a Master of Commerce (M.Com.) degree and has been actively involved in education, community development, social welfare and rural development.
Since 2014, he has been serving as the Founder and President of Shram Mr.jan Samaj Sevi Sanstha, a registered society working in areas including education, community development, public service, skill development and social outreach.
Through his association with social and community initiatives, Agrawal has contributed to several welfare activities, including:
- Healthcare support and assistance
- Humanitarian assistance
- Facilitation of medicines and medical treatment
- Hospital assistance for needy individuals
- Distribution of food and essential supplies
- Relief support for disadvantaged communities
His areas of experience include education promotion, rural and community development, social welfare, public service, skill development, healthcare support and social outreach.

Karunakaran Nambiar K: Over Three Decades of Legal Experience
Mr. Karunakaran Nambiar K. is a law graduate with more than 34 years of legal practice.
His legal experience covers civil and criminal courts in Kasaragod and Hosdurg, as well as family courts, DCRC and tribunals. He also served as Additional Standing Counsel for the Government of India at Kasaragod for three years.
Nambiar has held several positions in legal, banking and cooperative institutions. His experience includes:
- Senate Member at Kannur University
- Chairman of Kasaragod Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd.
- Former Director of Kasaragod District Co-operative Bank
- Former Director of The CAMPCO Ltd., Mangalore
- President of Bandadka Agricultural Marketing & Processing Co-operative Society Ltd.
- Former Secretary of Bar Association Kasaragod
He has also served as a legal advisor to several financial institutions and organisations, including State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Kerala Gramin Bank, Federal Bank and Southern Railway.
Promila Kundara: Former MLA with Social Welfare Experience
Promila Kundara holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree and is qualified in naturopathy (NDDY).
During her academic years, she participated in athletics at the district level in shot put, javelin and discus throw, besides participating in badminton. She also took part in the NCC All-India Trekking Camp.
Kundara is a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). She represented the Chaksu constituency in Jaipur from 2008 to 2013.
She continues to remain actively engaged in social welfare initiatives.
BEML Strengthens Its Board with Diverse Experience
The appointment of the three Independent Directors brings varied professional and social experience to BEML’s Board.
