New Delhi: State-owned engineering giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a landmark international contract from Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Free Zone Enterprise, Nigeria, marking the company’s largest-ever order for gas turbine generator packages on a supply-and-supervision basis.

The prestigious order, won amid stiff international competition, further strengthens BHEL’s global presence in the engineering and manufacturing sector while reaffirming its capabilities as a trusted supplier of advanced power generation equipment.

Largest-Ever Order for Gas Turbine Generator Packages

Under the contract, BHEL will manufacture and supply eight gas turbine generator packages and provide supervision for their erection and commissioning at the project site in Nigeria.

The equipment will be manufactured at BHEL’s manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, leveraging the company’s decades of expertise in gas turbine technology.

According to the company, the project represents the largest single order in BHEL’s history for gas turbine generator packages in terms of both quantity and value under a supply-and-supervision model.

Order Secured Amid Intense Global Competition

The contract was awarded by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Free Zone Enterprise, part of the Dangote Group, one of Africa’s largest and most diversified business conglomerates.

The Dangote Group has a significant presence across sectors including:

  • Oil refining
  • Petrochemicals
  • Fertilisers
  • Cement
  • Sugar
  • Packaging

BHEL said the order was secured after competing against leading international players, underlining the competitiveness of Indian engineering and manufacturing capabilities in the global market.

Boost to BHEL’s Global Presence

The latest order is expected to significantly enhance BHEL’s visibility in international markets and strengthen its position as a global engineering enterprise.

Over the years, BHEL has established a strong presence across Africa through the execution of several power sector projects in countries such as:

  • Egypt
  • Ethiopia
  • Libya
  • Rwanda
  • Senegal
  • Sudan

The company has also supplied power equipment to several other African nations.

Strong Track Record in Nigeria

This is not BHEL’s first major project in Nigeria.

Earlier, the company had successfully executed the supply and commissioning supervision of a 26 MW gas turbine generator package for the Government of Cross River State, Nigeria.

The latest contract further deepens BHEL’s engagement in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding energy and industrial sectors.

Four Decades of Expertise in Gas Turbine Technology

BHEL has been manufacturing and supplying gas turbines for more than 40 years, serving customers in both domestic and international markets.

The company is among the world’s leading manufacturers of gas turbines and generators and has supplied nearly 250 gas turbines to date. More than 20 percent of these installations have been delivered to overseas customers, reflecting BHEL’s growing export capabilities and international acceptance.

The latest order from Nigeria is expected to further strengthen India’s engineering exports while showcasing BHEL’s ability to deliver large-scale, technologically advanced power generation solutions across global markets.
