Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has reaffirmed the Madhya Pradesh government’s commitment to transforming Bhopal into one of the most developed metropolitan cities in India. Highlighting Bhopal’s beauty and historical significance, he said that planned development will not only benefit the state capital but also the surrounding districts.
At a grand ceremony organized by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation at Kushabhau Thackeray Auditorium, Dr. Yadav inaugurated several projects, performed Bhoomi Pujan for major infrastructure works, distributed appointment letters, and honored Safai Mitras.
Rs. 58232 crore allocated under Amrit 2.0 for water supply
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for multiple water supply projects worth Rs. 58232 crore under the Amrit 2.0 scheme. Additionally, 50 development works worth Rs. 16 crore 76 lakh were sanctioned for Jbhitra wards. These initiatives are expected to ensure clean drinking water for 30,000 households in Bhopal, marking a significant step in urban welfare.
Metro, Shikaras and modern infrastructure to redefine Bhopal
Dr. Yadav announced that metro rail services will begin in Bhopal by October 2025, easing urban transport. Shikaras, inspired by Srinagar’s Dal Lake, will soon operate in Bhopal’s Bada Talab with support from the Tourism Development Corporation. The Municipal Corporation is also constructing grand entry gates across the city, while a state-of-the-art convention center will be developed.
Strengthening democracy and local governance
Emphasizing India’s democratic legacy, Dr. Yadav highlighted the role of local bodies in implementing welfare schemes. He said that vibrant democratic participation has historically strengthened Bhopal’s growth and that the combined efforts of local institutions and citizens continue to drive development.
Focus on employment, industry and smart city growth
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Mr. Vishwas Kailash Sarang stated that continuous urban growth brings new employment opportunities, which in turn strengthens the economy. He credited Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for initiatives like Smart Cities Mission and Swachh Survekshan, which have positioned Bhopal as a model city, securing the second spot in cleanliness rankings. He called upon citizens to help Bhopal achieve first place in the upcoming survey.
Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s role in development
Mayor Ms. Malti Rai announced that under Amrit 2.0, the Municipal Corporation will establish four filter plants, four intake wells, and 36 water tanks connected through a 700 km pipeline to ensure sustainable water supply. She also distributed compassionate appointment letters to families of 31 municipal employees who lost their lives and presented recruitment letters to 24 newly selected candidates.
Safai Mitras honored for Swachhta achievements
Acknowledging the vital role of Safai Mitras in Bhopal’s success in Swachh Survekshan 2024, Dr. Yadav and the Mayor honored sanitation workers, reaffirming the government’s respect and recognition for their contributions.
The event was attended by MLA Mr. Rameshwar Sharma, MLA Mr. Bhagwan Das Sabnani, senior officials, municipal councilors, employees, and citizens in large numbers, reflecting a collective commitment towards shaping Bhopal as a model metropolitan city.
