Patna: The Bihar Health Department has decided to establish ‘ASHA Ghar’ in every district under the National Health Mission (NHM), providing ASHA workers with dedicated facilities for training, meetings, rest and community activities.

The initiative will be implemented in phases during 2026-27, with the State Health Society issuing guidelines to all Civil Surgeons-cum-Member Secretaries.

₹2 Lakh Allocated for Each District

The government has allocated ₹2 lakh for each district to establish ASHA Ghar facilities within District Hospitals (DHs), Sub-Divisional Hospitals (SDHs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs).

District authorities have been directed to make the facilities operational by August 31, 2026, and submit photographs of the completed ASHA Ghar to the State Health Society.

The facilities are intended to provide ASHA workers with a safe and convenient common space for regular training, monthly meetings, capacity-building programmes and health awareness activities.

Women-Friendly Facilities for ASHA Workers

Each ASHA Ghar will be equipped with basic facilities aimed at providing a safe and comfortable environment.

These will include:

  • At least six beds and a meeting room
  • Tables, chairs, racks and steel cupboards
  • Locking arrangements, fans and tube lights
  • Electric kettle and dustbins
  • Attached toilet and bathroom

The facilities are expected to make training and other departmental activities more convenient for ASHA workers.

District Committees to Oversee Operations

A district-level management committee will be formed to monitor the use, maintenance and functioning of each ASHA Ghar.

ASHA facilitators and concerned health officials will work together to coordinate training programmes, meetings and other activities.

Focus on Strengthening Primary Healthcare

Health Minister Nishant said ASHA workers play a vital role in maternal and child health, immunisation, nutrition, family planning and disease control.

He said the Bihar ASHA Ghar initiative will provide a permanent resource centre to strengthen training, efficiency and community-level healthcare delivery across the state.
