Patna: The Bihar Health Department will conduct a four-day Facility Based Newborn Care (FBNC) training programme from August 24 to 27, 2026, to strengthen newborn healthcare services and improve the skills of healthcare workers.

The first batch will be held at the Department of Paediatrics at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). Paediatricians, medical officers and staff nurses working in SNCUs, NICUs and MNCUs will participate in the programme.

Focus on Early Treatment of Sick Newborns

The training will strengthen the technical skills of healthcare workers involved in newborn care. Participants will learn about the early identification of serious health conditions, appropriate treatment and effective management of critically ill newborns.

The programme will also cover infection prevention, safe treatment practices and team-based care in newborn units. These measures aim to improve the quality and safety of services available to newborns.

Building Healthcare Workers’ Skills

Health Minister Nishant said newborn care remains a major priority for the state’s healthcare system. He stressed that the period immediately after birth is critical and healthcare workers must follow modern standards and protocols while providing care.

The minister said the FBNC training will strengthen healthcare workers’ capabilities and help ensure that sick newborns receive timely and quality treatment.

Training for Workers From Across Bihar

Healthcare workers nominated from various medical college hospitals and districts will attend the programme. The training will provide them with updated technical knowledge and practical skills that they can apply in their respective institutions.

The State Health Society, Bihar, is organising the programme as part of efforts to strengthen newborn and maternal healthcare services and improve the capacity of healthcare institutions across the state.
