Patna: In a major push to strengthen air connectivity and regional development, the Bihar cabinet led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has approved the construction of two new greenfield airports in Sonpur (Saran district) and Ajgaibinath Dham (Sultanganj, Bhagalpur district). The decision is expected to significantly enhance tourism, business activity, and employment opportunities across the state.
RITES Ltd Assigned to Prepare DPR and Master Plan
The state government has entrusted M/s RITES Ltd with the responsibility of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and master plan for both airport projects.
The consultancy firm will also assist in:
- Obtaining in-principle approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation
- Supporting the tendering process
- Providing technical consultancy for project execution
Officials said this structured planning will ensure smooth implementation of the ambitious infrastructure projects.

Sonpur Airport to Ease Pressure on Patna Airport

Currently, Bihar has only four operational airports:
- Patna
- Gaya
- Darbhanga
- Purnia
