BPCL Signs ₹4.45 Crore MoU for 1.7 MW Rooftop Solar Project at Shirdi to Promote Clean Energy

BPCL Foundation partners with Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust to install solar power system benefiting over 10 lakh devotees annually while reducing carbon emissions and energy costs

Shirdi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the installation of a 1.7 MW grid-connected rooftop solar PV system at Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST), Shirdi.

The initiative aims to strengthen clean energy adoption while reducing electricity costs and carbon emissions at one of India’s most visited pilgrimage centres.

MoU Signed in Presence of Dignitaries

The agreement was signed by Bina Mansukh, CEO of BPCL Foundation, and Goraksha Gadilkar, CEO of SSST, Shirdi.

The event was attended by Member of Parliament Bhausaheb Wakchaure, along with senior officials from both BPCL and SSST, highlighting the significance of the collaboration.

Project Cost and Implementation Timeline

Under the agreement:

  • Total project cost: ₹4.45 crore (approx.)
  • Capacity: 1.7 MW rooftop solar PV system
  • Execution period: 15 months
  • Implementing agency: BPCL Foundation
  • Executing agency: Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST)

Once completed, the system will generate substantial renewable energy and improve energy efficiency at the temple complex.

Clean Energy Push and Environmental Benefits

The rooftop solar installation is expected to:

  • Reduce dependency on conventional electricity
  • Lower operational energy costs
  • Cut carbon emissions significantly
  • Promote sustainable infrastructure at religious sites

The project aligns with BPCL’s broader focus on renewable energy and environmental sustainability.

Benefits for Devotees at Shirdi

A key highlight of the initiative is its large-scale social impact.

The project will benefit more than 10 lakh devotees annually who avail subsidized accommodation at Shirdi. Improved energy efficiency is expected to enhance facility operations while supporting eco-friendly development at the pilgrimage centre.

The collaboration reflects a growing trend of integrating renewable energy solutions into public and religious infrastructure. It also underscores BPCL’s commitment to community-focused development through green energy initiatives.
