BPCL CMD Sanjay Khanna Gets Additional Charge of Director (Refineries) from Petroleum Ministry

MoPNG assigns dual responsibility to BPCL chief; company confirms regulatory disclosure to stock exchanges under SEBI norms on April 16, 2026.

New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has informed stock exchanges that its Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Sanjay Khanna, has been assigned the additional charge of Director (Refineries) by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).

The disclosure was made in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, to both the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Ministry Assigns Additional Responsibility

According to BPCL, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a communication dated April 16, 2026, assigning Sanjay Khanna the additional role of Director (Refineries).

Khanna currently serves as BPCL’s CMD and will now hold dual responsibilities within the organisation.

Experienced Industry Veteran at the Helm

Sanjay Khanna is a seasoned petroleum industry professional with over three decades of experience in refinery operations and technical services.

He took charge as BPCL CMD on April 9, 2026.

He holds:

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering from NIT Tiruchirappalli
  • A postgraduate qualification in Finance Management from the University of Mumbai

Key Contributions in BPCL’s Refining Business

Before becoming CMD, Khanna served as Director (Refineries) and also led major refinery operations at BPCL.

His previous roles include:

  • Head of Mumbai Refinery
  • Head of Kochi Refinery
  • Executive Director of Kochi Refinery

During his tenure, he played a key role in improving operational efficiency and expanding capacity.

He also led the successful commissioning of BPCL’s Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP), the company’s first niche petrochemical venture, which was executed during the COVID-19 pandemic despite operational challenges.

Regulatory Compliance Disclosure

BPCL confirmed that the update has been formally communicated to stock exchanges as part of mandatory regulatory disclosure requirements under SEBI norms.
