Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh plans to develop 30 new industrial areas and provide industrial plots to 5,000 industries by 2028 as part of a broader initiative to improve land availability and infrastructure for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The state government will also allow private investors to develop MSME industrial parks by providing financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh per hectare. In addition, it plans to establish a separate, wholly state-owned MSME Industrial Development Company to address the land and infrastructure requirements of smaller enterprises.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced these initiatives during an entrepreneur interaction programme organised at his residence on the occasion of Madhya Pradesh’s Foundation Day.
Madhya Pradesh Targets Industrial Land Availability in Every District
The state government has set a target of making industrial land available to MSME units in every district within the next two months. According to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, around 22 districts have already exhausted their existing industrial land availability.
To address this shortage, the government plans to introduce a separate mechanism for developing new industrial areas and ensuring adequate land for smaller enterprises.
Under the plan, Madhya Pradesh aims to develop 30 new industrial areas and provide industrial plots to 5,000 industries by 2028. The initiative is expected to expand opportunities for entrepreneurs and improve access to suitable industrial infrastructure across the state.
Private Investors to Develop MSME Industrial Parks
Until now, the development of industrial areas has largely been handled by government agencies. Under the proposed approach, private investors will also be allowed to develop industrial parks specifically for MSMEs.
The government will provide financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh per hectare to support the development of these parks.
The proposed industrial parks are expected to offer smaller industrial plots, flatted factories and plug-and-play facilities. These provisions are aimed at helping small enterprises establish operations without having to independently arrange all basic infrastructure.
Separate State-Owned Company Planned for MSME Industrial Development
The Madhya Pradesh government also plans to establish a dedicated MSME Industrial Development Company. The proposed entity will be wholly owned by the state government and will focus on meeting the land and infrastructure requirements of small and medium enterprises.
The company will be responsible for identifying, acquiring, allotting and managing industrial land for MSME units. It will also develop industrial parks and provide essential infrastructure, including roads, electricity, water supply and drainage facilities.
At present, the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) primarily handles large industrial projects involving investments exceeding Rs 500 crore.
The proposed company is intended to create a dedicated institutional mechanism for smaller entrepreneurs, ensuring that their industrial land and infrastructure requirements receive focused attention.
Focus on Faster Land Allotment and Better Infrastructure
Through these measures, the state government aims to reduce MSME entrepreneurs’ dependence on existing industrial development agencies and shorten waiting periods for land allotment and essential infrastructure.
The proposed institutional arrangement is also expected to improve the availability of industrial plots suited to smaller enterprises and support the development of MSME-focused industrial parks.
With a target of 30 new industrial areas and plots for 5,000 industries by 2028, Madhya Pradesh is seeking to strengthen its industrial ecosystem and create better opportunities for small and medium businesses.
