New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the procurement of BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships. The contract was signed on October 6 under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Contract to Strengthen Naval Maritime Strike Capability
The BrahMos system, fitted onboard various frontline warships, is the Indian Navy’s primary Surface-to-Surface Missile (SSM) system for maritime strike operations.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the weapon system can engage land and sea targets from extended ranges with pinpoint accuracy at supersonic speed.
The new procurement covers the fire control systems and launchers required for BrahMos-equipped Indian Navy ships.

Project Carries 68% Indigenous Content
The project will have a minimum 68% indigenous content and is expected to encourage participation by Indian industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The Ministry said the project will also generate employment over a period of three years. It added that the procurement will support India’s maritime security architecture and defence capabilities while contributing to the indigenisation of advanced military technology.
BrahMos System Already Deployed on Frontline Warships
The BrahMos weapon system is deployed on various frontline Indian Navy warships and forms a key component of the Navy’s maritime strike capability.
The contract has been placed under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) procurement category, which requires indigenous design, development and manufacturing.
The Ministry said the procurement marks a further step towards indigenising advanced defence technology and strengthening India’s maritime defence capabilities.
