Raipur: Chhattisgarh has approved 10% reservation for eligible ex-Agniveers in direct recruitment to select Class III government posts, opening new employment opportunities for personnel who complete their four-year military service.
The decision was taken at a state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. The reservation will apply to direct recruitment for posts of police constable, forest guard and jail warder in the Police, Forest and Jail departments.
The Cabinet also approved the proposal to frame the Chhattisgarh Agniveer Soldiers (Reservation of Vacancies in Class III Posts in State Civil Services) Rules, 2026. The decision was reported on July 22, 2026, and was linked to the state’s earlier announcement on employment opportunities for Agniveers.
10% Reservation For Three Key Posts
Under the approved framework, the 10% reservation will apply to three categories of Class III posts:
- Police Department: Constable
- Forest and Climate Change Department: Forest Guard
- Jail Department: Jail Warder
The provision specifically concerns direct recruitment to these posts. The decision is aimed at creating a route for eligible former Agniveers to enter state government services after completing their military tenure.
The Cabinet decision also provides the framework for incorporating the reservation into the relevant recruitment rules.

Four Years Of Service Required
The reservation will not apply simply because a person was recruited as an Agniveer.
According to the approved framework, the benefit will be available to Agniveer soldiers who have successfully completed four years of service in the Indian Armed Forces and have been discharged with a valid service certificate.
This eligibility condition connects the reservation specifically with personnel who complete the prescribed Agniveer service period.
For candidates, the service certificate will therefore be an important document during the recruitment process. Detailed requirements will be governed by the applicable recruitment rules and future recruitment notifications.
Military Experience To Support State Services
The decision also seeks to make use of the experience and training that Agniveers gain during their military service.
Agniveers undergo military training and work in an environment that requires discipline, physical fitness and the ability to operate under different conditions. These skills can have relevance to services such as policing, forest protection and prison administration.
The state government has linked the decision with both employment opportunities for former Agniveers and the potential benefit of their discipline, training and experience to the concerned departments.
A New Employment Route After Military Service
The four-year service period under the Agnipath scheme creates an important transition point for personnel who leave the Armed Forces after completing their tenure.
For those who do not continue in regular military service, finding a subsequent career becomes an important part of their professional journey. The Chhattisgarh reservation provides a specific route into selected state government jobs through direct recruitment.
The policy could be particularly relevant to candidates interested in uniformed and field-based government services, where their military experience may align with the nature of the work.
However, candidates will still have to meet the applicable eligibility and selection requirements prescribed for the respective recruitment.
Recruitment Rules To Define The Process
The state government has decided to incorporate the reservation, along with eligibility, selection and appointment-related provisions, into the recruitment framework.
The detailed process will therefore become clearer through the applicable rules and recruitment notifications issued by the concerned departments.
Future notifications are expected to specify details such as eligibility requirements, required certificates, vacancies, application procedures and the selection process for individual recruitments.
This means that the 10% reservation provides the framework for eligible ex-Agniveers, while actual appointments will depend on the vacancies notified and the prescribed recruitment process.
Centre Also Has Provisions For Ex-Agniveers
The Chhattisgarh decision comes in the wider context of government measures aimed at providing employment opportunities to Agniveers after their military service.
At the central level, former Agniveers have provisions for reservation in recruitment to certain posts in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles. Those arrangements also include provisions relating to age relaxation and exemptions from certain selection requirements.
Chhattisgarh’s move creates a separate state-level opportunity in selected Class III services, specifically covering police constables, forest guards and jail warders.
What The Decision Means For Agniveers
For eligible former Agniveers, the policy creates an additional pathway into Chhattisgarh government employment after completing four years in the Armed Forces.
The immediate benefit is focused on three departments, but the larger objective is to connect military experience with civilian employment opportunities. The policy also recognises the possibility of using the skills developed during military service in policing, forest administration and prison services.
The actual benefit will depend on future recruitment notifications, the number of vacancies and candidates meeting the prescribed eligibility and selection conditions.
With the 10% reservation now approved for the specified Class III direct recruitments, four-year service-completed Agniveers with valid service certificates will have a dedicated reservation provision to consider when these state government posts are advertised.
