CM Vishnu Deo Sai Honours Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist Gyaneshwari Yadav, Announces Rs 30 Lakh Reward

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai honoured Rajnandgaon weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav at the Chief Minister’s residence for her outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Gyaneshwari won a silver medal in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting category, bringing pride to both Chhattisgarh and the country.

During the special felicitation programme, the Chief Minister congratulated the athlete for her achievement and announced a cash incentive of Rs 30 lakh. He also announced that Gyaneshwari would be promoted to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on an out-of-turn basis.

Gyaneshwari Yadav Wins Silver in Her Commonwealth Games Debut

CM Vishnu Deo Sai said Gyaneshwari achieved an exceptional feat by winning a silver medal in her first Commonwealth Games appearance.

Competing in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting event, Gyaneshwari lifted a total of 199 kg to secure the silver medal.

The Chief Minister said her achievement goes beyond winning a medal and will be remembered as an important milestone in the sporting history of Chhattisgarh.

He congratulated Gyaneshwari for making the country and the state proud through her performance on the international stage.

CM Announces Rs 30 Lakh Incentive and Out-of-Turn DSP Promotion

Recognising Gyaneshwari’s achievement, the Chhattisgarh government announced a Rs 30 lakh incentive for the Commonwealth Games silver medallist.

The government has also decided to grant her an out-of-turn promotion to the post of DSP.

CM Sai said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to recognising and rewarding outstanding achievements by sportspersons.

He added that such recognition would send a positive message to other athletes and encourage them to pursue excellence at national and international competitions.

From Limited Resources to International Success

The Chief Minister praised Gyaneshwari Yadav for her dedication, discipline and hard work.

He highlighted her journey from challenging circumstances and limited resources to achieving success on an international platform.

According to CM Sai, her success demonstrates that determination, consistent practice and sincere efforts can help individuals overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

He said Gyaneshwari’s achievement will serve as an inspiration for the youth of Chhattisgarh, particularly young girls who aspire to build careers in sports.

CM Recalls Meeting Gyaneshwari Before Glasgow Games

CM Vishnu Deo Sai recalled meeting Gyaneshwari before she left for Glasgow to participate in the Commonwealth Games.

During the meeting, he had wished her success and encouraged her to perform well at the international competition.

After Gyaneshwari won the silver medal, the Chief Minister also congratulated her through a video call.

CM Sai said that honouring the athlete after her return was a moment of pride and celebration for the entire state.

Chhattisgarh Government Focuses on Sports Development

The Chief Minister said the state government is continuously working to promote sports and support talented athletes.

The Chief Minister said the government aims to see more athletes from Chhattisgarh represent India at major international sporting events, including the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

He expressed confidence that Gyaneshwari Yadav would continue to achieve success and take the name of India and Chhattisgarh to greater heights in the future.

CM Sai emphasised that identifying sporting talent, providing athletes with opportunities and recognising their achievements are important parts of the state’s sports policy.

He said continued efforts in these areas will help Chhattisgarh strengthen its position among India’s leading states in the field of sports.
