CMPDI and MECL Sign MoU in Ranchi to Boost Mineral Exploration Under Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission

Partnership aims to strengthen coal and mineral exploration, expand resource mapping, and enhance India’s energy security and self-reliance in mining sector

Ranchi: Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) to jointly enhance exploration activities for energy and non-energy minerals across India.

The agreement was signed at CMPDI headquarters in Ranchi in the presence of Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s mineral exploration ecosystem.

Focus on Expanding Mineral Exploration and Resource Mapping

Under the MoU, CMPDI and MECL will collaborate to improve exploration efficiency and resource identification across the country.

Key objectives include:

  • Strengthening coal and mineral exploration capabilities
  • Expanding India’s national mineral resource inventory
  • Identifying and developing new mining blocks
  • Improving coordination in geological exploration activities

Officials said the partnership will accelerate exploration outcomes and enhance the availability of critical mineral data.

Boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat in Mining and Energy Sector

The collaboration aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen domestic resource availability.

The initiative focuses on:

  • Enhancing mineral self-reliance
  • Strengthening indigenous resource base
  • Ensuring long-term energy security
  • Supporting sustainable mining sector growth

The MoU is expected to play a key role in meeting rising demand for energy and critical minerals in India.

Senior Officials and PSU Leaders Attend Signing Ceremony

The signing ceremony was attended by top officials from major mining PSUs, including:

  • CMPDI CMD Chaudhari Shivraj Singh
  • MECL CMD I.D. Narayan
  • CCL CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh
  • Senior directors and officials from CMPDI, MECL, and CCL

Their presence highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation in advancing India’s mining sector.
