Leadership Continuity: Cochin Shipyard Extends Additional Charge of CMD to Jose V J for 3 Months

Kochi: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has announced that the additional charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) has been extended to Jose V J, Director (Finance), for a further period of three months. The extension has been approved by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.

According to the company’s regulatory filing, the extension came into effect from May 1, 2026, and will remain valid until July 31, 2026, or until a regular CMD is appointed, or until further orders are issued, whichever occurs earlier.

Continuity in Leadership at Cochin Shipyard

The decision ensures continuity in the leadership of Cochin Shipyard Limited while the process of appointing a regular Chairman and Managing Director is underway.

Jose V J was initially assigned the additional responsibility of CMD from February 1, 2026, following the superannuation of former CMD Madhu Sankunny Nair on January 31, 2026.

The Ministry, through its communication dated June 1, 2026, confirmed that the competent authority had approved the proposal to continue entrusting Jose V J with the additional charge for another three months.

Disclosure Made to Stock Exchanges

Cochin Shipyard informed both the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and BSE Limited regarding the extension in compliance with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations.

The company stated that the arrangement would continue until a regular incumbent assumes charge of the CMD position or until further instructions are issued by the competent authority.

Jose V J: Experienced Finance Professional Leading CSL

Jose V J currently serves as Director (Finance) at Cochin Shipyard Limited and has been associated with the company for more than three decades.

He took charge as Director (Finance) on August 1, 2019, and has been overseeing the additional responsibilities of CMD since February 1, 2026.

A qualified Cost Accountant and a Law graduate from Government Law College, Ernakulam, Jose V J joined Cochin Shipyard in 1995 as an Assistant Manager and steadily rose through the ranks.

Extensive Experience Across Key Business Functions

With nearly 34 years of professional experience, Jose V J has played a significant role in several critical areas of the company, including:

  • Financial management
  • Strategic planning
  • Risk management
  • Foreign exchange (Forex) management
  • Budgeting and cost control

In addition to his finance responsibilities, he also heads the Information Systems Department, contributing to the company’s digital transformation and operational efficiency initiatives.

Government Confirms Approval for Extension

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed that the competent authority approved the extension proposal, ensuring that Jose V J continues to discharge the responsibilities of Chairman and Managing Director during the interim period.

The extension provides stability to the leadership structure of the shipbuilding and ship repair company until a permanent CMD is appointed.
