New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has approved the appointment of Ajit Kumar Panda as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Container Corporation of India Ltd., commonly known as CONCOR. He will assume office with effect from August 1, 2026.

The decision was cleared by the competent authority and officially communicated through an order issued by the Ministry of Railways and Railway Board on June 29, 2026.

Current Role and Appointment Details

Ajit Kumar Panda is currently serving as Director (Projects & Services) at CONCOR. With his elevation, he will now lead the organisation as CMD, marking a significant leadership transition within India’s leading rail-linked logistics company.

Key highlights of the appointment include:

  • Appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of CONCOR
  • Currently Director (Projects & Services) at the same organisation
  • Will assume charge on or after August 1, 2026
  • Tenure valid until August 31, 2028, or until further orders
  • Approved by the Ministry of Railways
  • Pay scale: ₹2 lakh to ₹3.70 lakh (IDA)

Experienced Insider Takes Top Leadership Role

Ajit Kumar Panda has been associated with CONCOR’s project and service functions for several years. His experience includes overseeing logistics and infrastructure-related initiatives within the organisation.

His elevation is seen as a move to place an experienced internal executive at the helm of India’s largest rail-linked container logistics company at a time when India’s freight and multimodal logistics sector is expanding rapidly.

When Will Ajit Kumar Panda Take Charge?

As per the official Railway Board order, Panda will formally take charge as CMD on or after August 1, 2026.

He will continue in the role until his superannuation on August 31, 2028, or until further government orders, whichever is earlier.
