DDA Launches Digital Plantation Monitoring System with Geo-Tagging, Real-Time Tracking

New app-based system will monitor plantation, tree survival and maintenance as Delhi pushes ahead with its 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign.

New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has launched its first Digital Plantation Monitoring System for the 2026-27 plantation campaign, introducing geo-tagging and real-time monitoring to improve the survival and maintenance of newly planted trees.

The initiative aims to move beyond plantation targets by ensuring proper irrigation, protection and long-term growth of saplings through technology-driven monitoring.

Geo-Tagging and Mobile App for Real-Time Monitoring

To make the plantation drive more transparent and accountable, DDA has developed a dedicated mobile application and an integrated digital dashboard.

Field officials, particularly those from the Horticulture Department, will upload geo-tagged locations (latitude and longitude) along with photographs of every plantation site in real time. This will help monitor individual plantations and track their progress throughout the year.

Focus on Tree Survival

The new system will also record the mortality rate of saplings. If any plants fail to survive, replacement plantation will be carried out to maintain the targeted green cover.

Additionally, an independent third-party agency will assess the survival rate of saplings, ensuring an unbiased evaluation of the plantation campaign.

Public Dashboard for Greater Transparency

Following directions from Delhi Lieutenant Governor and DDA Chairman Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the monitoring portal will be made available to the public through the DDA’s official website.

Citizens will be able to view park-wise plantation details, including the number of saplings planted, species information and their exact locations, encouraging greater public participation and transparency.

Strong Public Participation

The plantation campaign has witnessed significant community participation. According to DDA, the drive has involved:

  • 118 Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs)
  • 18 religious organisations
  • 24 schools
  • More than 13,750 citizens

The campaign is part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam‘ mission launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on July 7, 2026. Under the initiative, DDA has been assigned the responsibility of planting 23 lakh native saplings across Delhi.

Officials said that more than 50% of the plantation target has already been achieved in less than a month.

Why It Matters

By combining digital technology, public participation and independent verification, DDA’s new monitoring system aims to improve the success rate of tree plantations rather than focusing only on planting numbers. The initiative is expected to expand Delhi’s green cover, improve air quality, reduce the urban heat island effect and strengthen biodiversity across the national capital.
