New Delhi: In a major step to address the growing parking crisis in the capital, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has initiated plans to develop five multi-level car parking projects across key locations in Delhi, including Karkardooma, Dwarka, and Okhla Industrial Area.

These projects aim to significantly reduce roadside parking, ease traffic congestion, and improve urban mobility in densely populated areas.

Five Strategic Locations Identified for New Parking Facilities

The DDA has selected five important locations for the upcoming multi-level parking complexes:

  • Karkardooma
  • Okhla Industrial Area Phase-1
  • Dilshad Garden
  • Dwarka
  • Saini Enclave

Together, these facilities will provide parking space for over 1,261 cars across a total area of around 11,048 square meters.

E-Auction Process and Commercial Utilization

To develop these projects, the DDA will conduct an e-auction for five plots. The parking complexes will be designed as mixed-use facilities, with a portion reserved for commercial activity under the provisions of the Master Plan-2021.

This commercial component is expected to make the projects financially viable while ensuring efficient public infrastructure development.

Planned Completion and Infrastructure Impact

According to officials, all five multi-level parking projects are expected to be completed within the next three years.

Once operational, these facilities are expected to:

  • Reduce roadside parking pressure
  • Improve traffic flow in congested areas
  • Enhance organized parking availability
  • Support modern urban infrastructure in Delhi

Areas like Karkardooma and Dwarka are expected to benefit significantly from improved parking management systems.

Addressing Delhi’s Growing Parking Crisis

The parking problem in Delhi has become a major urban challenge, especially in residential neighborhoods where space constraints often lead to disputes and congestion.

In some cases, parking-related conflicts have escalated into serious incidents, highlighting the urgent need for structured solutions.

The DDA initiative aims to provide safe, organized, and accessible parking spaces near residential zones to reduce such conflicts.

Boost to Urban Mobility and Safety

Urban planners believe that these multi-level parking structures will play a crucial role in improving Delhi’s traffic management system. By shifting parked vehicles off roads, the initiative is expected to:

  • Reduce traffic jams
  • Improve road safety
  • Enhance emergency vehicle access
  • Support sustainable urban development

The initiative by the Delhi Development Authority marks a significant step toward resolving Delhi’s long-standing parking challenges. With strategically located multi-level parking facilities, the city aims to improve traffic efficiency, reduce congestion, and create a more organized urban transport system.
