New Delhi: Adani Defence & Aerospace signed a five-year agreement with Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) to supply indigenous 7.62×39 mm small-calibre ammunition for the AK-203 assault rifle programme.
The agreement strengthens India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem by creating a domestic supply chain for both rifles and ammunition. The move also supports the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative aimed at increasing indigenous defence production and reducing dependence on imports.

IRRPL was established in 2019 under an India-Russia intergovernmental agreement to manufacture AK-203 assault rifles in India. The production facility is located in Korwa, Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh.
The joint venture includes Indian partners Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL) and Munitions India Limited (MIL), along with Russian defence companies Kalashnikov Concern and Rosoboronexport.

In December 2021, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with IRRPL for 6,01,427 AK-203 assault rifles. The rifles are being manufactured at the Korwa facility and are intended for the Indian Armed Forces.
