  • Military education and professional training.
  • Exchange of military training programmes.

These discussions are expected to support closer cooperation between the Indian Army and the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF).

The meeting also highlighted the importance of regular military exchanges and sharing professional knowledge between the two countries.

India-Tanzania Army Staff Talks: Tanzanian Delegation Visits Indian Defence Facilities

During its visit to India, the Tanzanian delegation visited important defence establishments to understand India’s military maintenance and defence manufacturing capabilities.

Visit To 505 Army Base Workshop

The delegation visited the 505 Army Base Workshop, where it gained insights into India’s military equipment maintenance and technical support capabilities.

Such visits provide an opportunity for partner countries to understand India’s experience in maintaining military equipment and supporting defence operations.

Visit To DPSU Bhawan

The Tanzanian delegation also visited DPSU Bhawan, gaining information about India’s domestic defence manufacturing sector.

The visit highlighted India’s growing focus on indigenous defence production and its ability to develop defence-related technologies and equipment.

These interactions can help create opportunities for future defence industry cooperation between India and Tanzania.

As part of the official visit, the Tanzanian delegation also visited the National War Memorial in New Delhi.

The delegation paid homage to India’s fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives while protecting the country.

The tribute reflected mutual respect and strengthened the friendly relationship between the armed forces of both nations. The Indian Army stated that the engagement reinforced mutual trust and the shared commitment towards deeper military cooperation.

India-Tanzania Army Staff Talks: Cooperation Expansion Through JDCC Meeting

The latest Army Staff Talks follow another important defence engagement held earlier in 2026. India and Tanzania conducted the fourth Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting in Zanzibar from February 2 to 3, 2026.

The meeting reviewed existing defence cooperation and explored new opportunities in several important areas. Both countries discussed cooperation in:

  • Military training and service-to-service cooperation.
  • Maritime security.
  • Defence industry collaboration.
  • Counter-terrorism activities.
  • Peacekeeping training.
  • Electronic Warfare (EW).
  • Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Military medicine was also identified as a potential area for future cooperation. Additionally, both sides agreed to initiate cooperation between their Air Forces, complementing their existing Army and Navy engagements.

The Indian delegation was led by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (Defence Cooperation), while the Tanzanian delegation was led by Ibrahim Mhona, Chief of Operations and Training of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force. The discussions demonstrated the growing importance of defence cooperation between the two countries.

India And Tanzania Share A Strategic Defence Partnership

India and Tanzania have maintained friendly and cooperative relations for several decades. Their relationship includes cooperation in defence, education, healthcare, trade, development projects and capacity-building programmes.

An important milestone came in October 2023, when India and Tanzania elevated their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership during the state visit of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to India.

The partnership created opportunities for deeper cooperation across several sectors, including defence and security.

Defence cooperation between the two countries is also guided by a five-year roadmap signed during the second JDCC meeting in Arusha in June 2023.

India has also supported Tanzania through military training and professional exchanges. These initiatives help strengthen institutional connections between the armed forces of both countries.
