New Delhi: The Delhi government has launched infrastructure development projects worth around ₹170 crore across nine industrial areas to improve road connectivity, drainage systems and essential civic facilities. The initiative covers nearly 15 km of roads and 34 km of stormwater drainage networks, aiming to address long-standing infrastructure deficiencies and improve conditions for industrial and commercial activities.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the projects at Rajasthani Udyog Nagar Industrial Area on Tuesday. She said funding would not be a constraint in the development of industrial areas and emphasised the need to improve basic infrastructure, prevent waterlogging and ensure that industrial zones receive adequate attention in the city’s development plans.
Delhi Industrial Areas to Get Better Roads and Drainage
The infrastructure programme focuses on improving road conditions and strengthening drainage systems across industrial areas that have faced civic challenges for years.
Key highlights of the projects include:
- Road development: Improvement of nearly 15 km of roads to facilitate smoother movement of vehicles and goods.
- Stormwater drainage: Development of approximately 34 km of drainage networks to help prevent waterlogging.
- Underground utility ducts: Dedicated ducts for electricity, water, telecommunications and other essential services.
- Long-term maintenance: A focus on maintaining the upgraded infrastructure to ensure its continued functionality.
The projects are intended to improve industrial connectivity, reduce operational difficulties and strengthen essential services in areas supporting manufacturing and commercial activities.

Underground Utility Ducts to Reduce Repeated Road Excavation
A key feature of the infrastructure programme is the installation of underground utility ducts for essential services, including electricity, water and telecommunications. These ducts are expected to reduce the need for repeated excavation of newly developed roads whenever utility repairs or upgrades are required. Coordinated utility management can also help improve maintenance and minimise disruptions to industrial operations.
The road and drainage improvements are further expected to support smoother traffic movement, reduce dust and vehicle-related pollution, and create a better working environment for businesses operating in these areas.
Rekha Gupta Says Funding Will Not Be a Constraint
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the importance of improving infrastructure in industrial areas and said financial resources would not stand in the way of development.
The programme aims to address long-standing civic deficiencies and ensure that industrial zones are not left out of the city’s broader infrastructure development efforts. Better roads, effective drainage and improved access to essential services are expected to support industrial activity and business operations.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa Highlights Long-Standing Infrastructure Issues
Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said several industrial areas in Delhi had faced inadequate infrastructure for years, including poorly maintained roads and other civic problems.
He emphasised that the government’s approach would cover both infrastructure construction and regular maintenance. The objective is to keep roads, drainage systems and other facilities functional over the long term rather than limiting the programme to initial development works.
According to Sirsa, improved infrastructure would facilitate the movement of goods, enhance business efficiency and help create a more supportive environment for industrial growth.
List of Industrial Areas Covered Under the Projects
The infrastructure development programme covers nine industrial areas, including the following locations:
- Rajasthani Udyog Nagar
- GTK Udyog Nagar
- Naraina Industrial Area
- Lawrence Road Industrial Area
- Rama Road in Najafgarh
- DLF Moti Nagar
- Nangloi Jat
- S-Block
- Okhla Phase II
The projects aim to improve connectivity and civic facilities across these industrial zones, which support manufacturing, trade and other commercial activities.
Infrastructure Upgrade Expected to Support Industrial Growth
The Delhi government’s infrastructure initiative is expected to address operational challenges faced by businesses by improving road access, drainage and the management of essential utilities.
With nearly 15 km of roads and 34 km of stormwater drainage systems covered under the programme, the projects aim to strengthen industrial infrastructure and improve the movement of goods and vehicles.
The focus on regular maintenance and coordinated utility management is also intended to ensure that the benefits continue over time, supporting business efficiency, investment and employment generation across Delhi’s industrial areas.
