Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Pushes TB-Free India Campaign, Calls for Public Support to Eliminate Tuberculosis

At a TB awareness workshop in Delhi Secretariat, CM Rekha Gupta highlighted Delhi’s 95% achievement in TB patient identification targets and urged citizens, corporates, and social organisations to join the elimination drive.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday participated in an awareness workshop organised under the TB-Free India Campaign and appealed to citizens, corporate organisations, and social groups to actively participate in the fight against tuberculosis (TB).

Addressing the programme held at the Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the Delhi government is fully committed to achieving the goal of TB elimination and stressed that TB is now a completely curable disease if detected early and treated properly.

The workshop was organised by the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Delhi State Health Mission for elected representatives to increase awareness and strengthen community participation in the campaign.

Delhi Achieves Over 95% of Annual TB Identification Targets

CM Rekha Gupta highlighted Delhi’s progress in TB control efforts and said the city has consistently achieved more than 95% of the annual targets set by the central government for the identification and registration of TB patients.

She said timely diagnosis and completion of treatment can help patients recover fully.

The Chief Minister emphasized that spreading awareness among people is essential to ensure early detection, reduce stigma, and improve treatment outcomes.

TB-Free India Campaign Has Become a People’s Movement

During her address, Rekha Gupta said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the TB-Free India Campaign has transformed from a government initiative into a nationwide people’s movement based on public participation.

She said the vision of eliminating TB within the targeted timeframe requires active involvement from every section of society.

The Chief Minister urged:

  • Citizens to spread awareness about TB prevention and treatment.
  • Corporate organisations to support healthcare initiatives.
  • Social organisations to contribute towards community-level efforts.

Government Showcases TB Awareness Initiatives and Future Plans

During the workshop, the Health and Family Welfare Department presented a special video highlighting TB awareness and prevention measures.

The Delhi State Health Mission also gave a detailed presentation on:

  • Achievements under the TB-Free India Campaign.
  • Current status of TB elimination efforts in Delhi.
  • Future strategies and action plans.

CM Rekha Gupta also inspected various information and awareness stalls related to TB elimination.

CM Reviews Nikshay Mitra Initiative and Patient Support System

The Chief Minister visited the stall related to the Nikshay Mitra initiative, where she learned about various support measures being provided to TB patients.

She reviewed information regarding:

  • Nutritional assistance for TB patients.
  • Community participation in TB care.
  • Public support initiatives.
  • Patient rehabilitation efforts.
  • Digital support systems for monitoring and assistance.

She also discussed the progress of the campaign with officials and reviewed the services reaching patients across Delhi.

Instructions to Expand TB Awareness Across Delhi

CM Rekha Gupta directed officials to ensure that the TB elimination campaign reaches every:

  • Ward.
  • Assembly constituency.
  • Local area.

She emphasized strengthening grassroots-level awareness so that more citizens become part of the movement against tuberculosis.

The Chief Minister said collective efforts by government agencies, public representatives, healthcare workers, and citizens are necessary to achieve a TB-free Delhi.

Health Minister and Officials Attend Workshop

The awareness workshop was attended by several dignitaries, including:

  • Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh.
  • Members of Parliament.
  • MLAs.
  • Councillors.
  • Senior administrative officials.
  • Health department officers.
  • Other representatives.

The event focused on increasing awareness among public representatives and strengthening their role in spreading TB prevention and treatment messages at the community level.
