Moradabad: The proposed Moradabad-Delhi Rapid Rail project could open up new opportunities for economic growth and connectivity across Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district. Under the proposed plan, Rapid Rail stations are likely to be developed at Joya and Gajraula, giving residents direct access to the rapid transit network.

The ambitious project, estimated to cost around ₹10,000 crore, could reduce travel time between Moradabad and Delhi to approximately 90 minutes. The project’s vision report is reportedly in its final stage, after which further proceedings are expected to begin at the government level.

Rapid Rail Corridor to Connect Moradabad with Delhi

The proposed Rapid Rail corridor will connect Moradabad with Delhi via Amroha, Hapur and Ghaziabad.

The high-speed corridor is expected to provide passengers with:

  • Faster travel between key cities.
  • Safer and more convenient public transportation.
  • Better connectivity between western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi-NCR.
  • Reduced dependence on road transport.
  • Relief from increasing traffic pressure on national highways.

The project is being considered as a long-term solution to the growing transportation requirements of the region.

Joya and Gajraula Likely to Get Rapid Rail Stations

Amroha district is expected to be one of the major beneficiaries of the proposed project.

Rapid Rail stations are likely to be developed at Joya and Gajraula, which could provide residents with direct connectivity to the high-speed rail network.

The improved connectivity is expected to make travel to Delhi-NCR significantly easier and could also support the movement of workers, students, traders and business travellers.

Delhi Road Traffic Expected to Rise Further

The need for a high-speed public transport system has been highlighted by traffic growth on major roads connecting the region with Delhi.

According to surveys conducted before the project proposal:

  • Around 16,000 vehicles per hour currently pass through Delhi Road.
  • This number is projected to increase to around 25,000 vehicles per hour in the future.
  • Around 40,000 vehicles reportedly pass daily through the Joya and Brajghat toll areas.

Experts believe that conventional infrastructure solutions such as flyovers alone may not be sufficient to address the region’s long-term traffic requirements.

Amroha Expected to Benefit from Trade and Investment Growth

The proposed Rapid Rail project could provide a major boost to Amroha’s economic development.

With stations planned at Joya and Gajraula, improved connectivity with Delhi-NCR could encourage growth in:

  • Trade and commerce.
  • Industries.
  • Tourism.
  • Investment.
  • Employment opportunities.

Officials believe better connectivity could strengthen the economic and industrial potential of Amroha and contribute to the broader development of western Uttar Pradesh.

Gajraula May Get Modern Interstate Bus Terminal

The proposed plan also includes the development of a modern Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Gajraula’s Zero Point. The facility is expected to improve connectivity between bus services and the Rapid Rail network, allowing passengers to transfer more conveniently between different modes of transport. The integration of bus and Rapid Rail services could create a more efficient and seamless public transportation system for residents and travellers in the region.

Rapid Rail Corridor Proposed in Four Phases

According to the proposed plan, the Rapid Rail corridor will be developed in four phases:

  • Phase 1: Pakbara to Joya.
  • Phase 2: Joya to Gajraula.
  • Phase 3: Gajraula to Hapur.
  • Phase 4: Hapur to Ghaziabad.

Most of the Rapid Rail track is proposed to be constructed above the National Highway, which is expected to allow road and rail traffic to operate smoothly without significantly disrupting existing road infrastructure.

₹10,000 Crore Project in Vision Report Stage

The proposed Moradabad-Delhi Rapid Rail project is estimated to involve an investment of around ₹10,000 crore.

The project’s vision report is currently in the final stage, and further action at the government level is expected soon.

If implemented, the project could transform regional connectivity, reduce pressure on highways and support economic development across western Uttar Pradesh. For Amroha, the proposed stations at Joya and Gajraula could provide a significant boost to mobility, trade, investment and employment opportunities.
