New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced major steps to improve cleanliness and infrastructure on Pankha Road, including covering the open drain and upgrading the area’s overall condition. The Chief Minister said the Delhi government is working towards transforming the city through improved waste management, modern sanitation systems, and better civic facilities.

During an inspection of the area, CM Gupta highlighted that Pankha Road, considered a major lifeline of West Delhi, had suffered from years of neglect due to garbage accumulation and poor waste management.

Delhi Government Allocates ₹2,300 Crore Additional Budget for Waste Management

CM Gupta said the Delhi government has provided an additional ₹2,300 crore budget to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to strengthen cleanliness and waste management systems.

The additional funding will help in:

  • Introducing modern waste management methods.
  • Increasing mechanical cleaning resources.
  • Improving garbage collection systems.
  • Providing better equipment and infrastructure to civic bodies.

She said earlier councillors often complained about a shortage of funds and garbage collection vehicles, but the situation is now changing with adequate resources being provided.

Focus on Modern Waste Processing and Garbage Management

The Chief Minister said cleanliness is a key measure of a city’s development and beauty.

Highlighting improvements in waste management, she said garbage dumping areas are also being transformed and made cleaner.

She informed that Delhi generates around:

  • 14,000 metric tonnes of waste daily.
  • Earlier, only around 6,000 metric tonnes was being processed.

To improve waste disposal capacity:

  • Additional waste processing machines have been installed at landfill sites.
  • Capacity enhancement work is underway.
  • New waste-to-energy facilities are being developed.

15,000 Metric Tonne Capacity Waste-to-Energy Plants Planned

CM Rekha Gupta said that once waste-to-energy plants with a processing capacity of 15,000 metric tonnes per day become operational, the problem of growing garbage mountains will gradually be eliminated.

She added that the issue is being monitored regularly, including by senior national leaders, and efforts are underway to create a cleaner Delhi.

Government Focuses on Cleaner and Better Delhi

The Chief Minister said the government is committed to improving urban cleanliness and ensuring better civic services for citizens.

She highlighted that:

  • Adequate funds are being provided to local bodies.
  • Modern equipment is being introduced.
  • Waste processing capacity is being expanded.
  • Long-pending civic issues are being addressed.

She said a clean city reflects better governance and improves the quality of life of residents.

CM Reviews Garbage Problem on Ground, Highlights Citizen-Centric Governance

CM Gupta questioned whether citizens had previously seen a Chief Minister personally visiting and reviewing garbage-related issues on the ground.

She said the government is directly monitoring civic challenges and working towards practical solutions.

The Pankha Road improvement plan is part of Delhi’s broader effort to strengthen sanitation, waste management, and urban infrastructure across the capital.
