ECL Organizes Plantation Drive Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign in Barachak to Boost Green Initiative

Kolkata: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, organized a plantation drive under the nationwide initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ on June 8, 2026, at the Vigilance and Environment Department Office Campus, Barachak House. The initiative reaffirmed the company’s strong commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Plantation Drive Focuses on Green Responsibility

The plantation programme witnessed active participation from employees and officials, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in addressing environmental challenges.

Participants were encouraged to plant at least one tree in the name of their mother and nurture it carefully, symbolizing the emotional bond between motherhood and Mother Earth. The campaign emphasized that small individual actions can collectively contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.

Chief Vigilance Officer Leads the Initiative

The event was graced by Deepti Patel, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), ECL, who attended as the Chief Guest. She carried out the symbolic plantation and delivered an address highlighting:

  • Rising environmental concerns
  • Increasing global temperatures
  • Need for sustainable and eco-friendly practices
  • Collective responsibility toward environmental protection

She urged employees and participants to actively contribute to environmental preservation through consistent green practices.

Message of Emotional and Environmental Significance

The campaign carried a strong emotional message, linking the act of tree plantation with respect for mothers and nature. It emphasized that a tree planted in honour of one’s mother becomes a lasting legacy for future generations.

The initiative also reinforced awareness about ecological balance and the importance of nurturing green cover for long-term sustainability.
