New Delhi: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) has launched Special Campaign 6.0 under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances’ (DARPG) ‘Waste to Wealth’ theme and the Ministry of Coal’s ‘eWaste Management’ theme.

The campaign aims to improve workplace cleanliness, promote sustainability and enhance operational efficiency across ECL. It will be implemented in two phases, covering preparatory activities followed by the main implementation period.

ECL Special Campaign 6.0 to Focus on Four Key Areas

The campaign will focus on four major areas to strengthen workplace management and operational practices:

  • E-waste management
  • Pendency reduction
  • Space optimisation
  • Digitalisation

ECL will undertake targeted activities under each area to promote responsible resource management and create a cleaner, more efficient workplace.

Special Campaign 6.0 to Be Implemented in Two Phases

The campaign will be carried out in two phases.

Campaign timeline:

  • Preparatory Phase: September 15 to September 30, 2026
  • Implementation Phase: October 2 to October 31, 2026

The preparatory phase will help ECL identify areas requiring attention and establish action plans before the implementation phase begins.

ECL to Strengthen E-Waste Management

As part of Special Campaign 6.0, ECL will undertake systematic collection, segregation and responsible disposal of electronic waste.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring better management of obsolete electronic equipment while promoting environmentally responsible workplace practices.

ECL will also encourage employees and operational units to adopt practices that support sustainable waste management.

Pendency Reduction Among Key Campaign Priorities

Another major focus of the campaign will be the reduction of pending matters received from different stakeholders.

ECL will work towards reducing the pendency of:

  • Public grievances
  • Appeals
  • References
  • Communications from stakeholders
  • Matters received from Members of Parliament
  • Communications from state governments

The objective is to improve the timely disposal of such matters and enhance administrative efficiency.

ECL to Optimise Office Space Through Scrap Disposal

The company will also focus on better utilisation of office space by identifying scrap, obsolete and unserviceable items occupying valuable areas.

Such items will be assessed for appropriate disposal, helping create more organised and functional workplaces.

Space optimisation is expected to support both cleanliness and efficient utilisation of office infrastructure.

Digitalisation to Promote Paperless Workplace

Digitalisation will form another important pillar of Special Campaign 6.0.

ECL will expand the use of digital processes to promote paperless and eco-friendly workplace practices. Greater adoption of digital systems is expected to improve operational efficiency while reducing the environmental impact associated with paper-based processes.

Satish Jha Calls for Active Employee Participation

The campaign was formally launched by ECL Chairman and Managing Director Satish Jha, who called upon employees to actively participate in Special Campaign 6.0.

He emphasised the importance of collective efforts to achieve the campaign’s objectives and ensure effective implementation across the organisation.

The initiative is being undertaken under the theme ‘Act Today, Impact Tomorrow’, linking workplace cleanliness and sustainability with long-term operational improvement.

Senior ECL Officials Attend Campaign Launch

The launch was attended by senior officials from ECL headquarters and its operational areas.

Those present included:

  • Md. Anzar Alam, Director (Finance)
  • Gunjan Kumar Sinha, Director (HR)
  • Girish Gopinathan Nair, Director (Technical/P&P)
  • Chitranjan Kumar, Director (Technical/Operations)
