Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary held a high-level review meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Bihar’s Civil Aviation Department to accelerate air connectivity and airport infrastructure development across the state.
The meeting focused on transforming Bihar into a regional aviation hub over the next five years.
Major Focus on Airport Expansion and Modernisation
During the meeting at the ‘Sankalp’ hall in Patna, detailed presentations were made on key aviation projects, including:
- Expansion and modernization of airports and airstrips
- Strengthening air connectivity across districts
- Development of aviation security infrastructure
- Implementation of the UDAN scheme
Officials highlighted ongoing and proposed projects aimed at improving regional air travel facilities.
Key Airports and Projects Discussed
Several important airport projects were reviewed, including:
- Expansion of Patna Airport runway and capacity enhancement
- Upgradation of Darbhanga Airport to international status
- Development of Purnea civil enclave
- Greenfield airport project at Ajgaibinath Dham
- Development of airports at Muzaffarpur, Valmikinagar, Saharsa, and Birpur
- Upgradation of Forbesganj Airport
- Technical improvement of state airstrips
The discussions also included prioritizing Bihar under the revised UDAN scheme.
Bihar to Increase Air Connectivity Tenfold
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary stated that Bihar’s civil aviation sector is growing rapidly, and the government aims to increase air connectivity by 10 times in the next five years.
He said that a comprehensive roadmap is being prepared to ensure air connectivity across all districts of the state.
Push to Develop Bihar as Regional Aviation Hub
The Chief Minister emphasized that Bihar will be developed as a leading aviation hub in eastern India with:
- Safe and seamless air connectivity
- Modern and sustainable airport infrastructure
- Enhanced passenger capacity and services
He added that improved air connectivity will boost tourism, economic activity, and job creation in the state.
Centre-State Coordination for Faster Implementation
The state government assured full cooperation to the Ministry of Civil Aviation for the timely execution of airport development projects.
Officials also discussed runway expansion and international status for Darbhanga Airport to increase global travel opportunities.
The review meeting marked a major step toward strengthening Bihar’s aviation infrastructure, with a strong focus on connectivity expansion, airport modernization, and long-term economic growth through improved air transport facilities.
