The Ministry of Defence has decided that invitation cards for the Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort will carry all six stanzas of Vande Mataram. According to reports, the national song will be performed during the ceremony before the national anthem is played.

The invitations will be sent to senior ministers, military officials, diplomats, students, bureaucrats and distinguished achievers from different fields.
Why Is Vande Mataram Independence Day Invitation Cards Decision Important
The decision comes about a week after Parliament passed the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The amendment grants Vande Mataram the same legal status as the national anthem, strengthening its official recognition in national events. Under the law, any intentional obstruction or insult to the national song can attract legal penalties, similar to protections already available for national symbols.
Full Rendition of Vande Mataram Made Mandatory
The government has also made the rendition of all six stanzas of Vande Mataram mandatory during official observances. Previously, it was common practice to sing only the first two stanzas, which were adopted as the national song in 1950. Officials said the complete lyrics are being printed on invitation cards so attendees can participate and sing along during the ceremony.
Vande Mataram Independence Day Invitation Cards: Special Feature on the Invitation Card
The invitation card will also feature an image of Seva Teerth, the new unified administrative complex that houses:
- Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)
- National Security Council Secretariat
- Cabinet Secretariat
The inclusion of the image reflects the government’s focus on showcasing key national institutions during the landmark Independence Day celebrations.
