Delhi Gets ₹1,647 Crore Infrastructure Boost as Centre Approves 28 Major Development Projects

Metro, Flyovers, Electric Mobility, Road Works and Property Rights Initiatives to Accelerate Capital’s Urban Growth

New Delhi: The Central Government has approved ₹1,647 crore for 28 major infrastructure projects in Delhi under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment Scheme, giving a major boost to the capital’s urban development plans.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the approved projects include key initiatives related to Delhi Metro expansion, Barapulla Elevated Corridor, Karawal Nagar Flyover, electric vehicle charging stations at DTC depots and several road infrastructure works.

The Centre has also approved an additional ₹756 crore financial incentive for the Delhi Government for increasing capital investment through its own resources and maintaining financial discipline.

28 Infrastructure Projects to Improve Delhi Connectivity and Public Facilities

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the approved projects will help strengthen Delhi’s infrastructure network and improve public services.

The major projects include:

  • Delhi Metro-related infrastructure works
  • Barapulla Elevated Corridor development
  • Karawal Nagar Flyover project
  • Electric vehicle charging stations at DTC depots
  • Road infrastructure improvement works
  • Other essential urban development projects

According to the Chief Minister, these initiatives will improve traffic management, strengthen public transport systems and provide better civic facilities to residents.

Centre Approves ₹756 Crore Additional Incentive for Capital Investment

CM Rekha Gupta said the Centre has recognised Delhi’s efforts towards increasing capital expenditure and maintaining financial discipline by approving an additional incentive of ₹756 crore.

She said the support will help the Delhi Government implement development projects more efficiently and accelerate infrastructure growth.

The Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment Scheme provides interest-free financial assistance to states and Union Territories for infrastructure projects and encourages structural reforms along with higher capital expenditure.

Delhi Government to Fast-Track Implementation of Approved Projects

The Chief Minister informed that approval for all 28 projects was granted on July 9.

She has directed the Finance Department to coordinate with concerned departments and ensure that work begins quickly.

CM Gupta said the approval is an important step towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India and will provide new momentum to infrastructure expansion, investment and public service development in Delhi.

Delhi Seeks ₹100 Crore Centre Support for Property Rights in Unauthorised Colonies

Apart from infrastructure projects, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has sought ₹100 crore financial assistance from the Central Government to speed up the process of granting property rights to residents of 1,511 unauthorised colonies in Delhi.

She wrote to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, requesting funds from the Urban Development Fund.

The proposed financial assistance will be used for:

  • Digital surveys
  • Establishment of PM-UDAY cells at district level
  • Public awareness campaigns
  • Technology-based property rights processing

The initiative aims to make the process of granting ownership rights more transparent, faster and citizen-friendly.

PM-UDAY Rules Provide New Framework for Property Rights

CM Rekha Gupta said that after the revised PM-UDAY regulations notified on April 6, 2026, the process of granting property rights in unauthorised colonies has received a stronger legal framework.

The Delhi Government believes that the updated system will make it easier for eligible residents to obtain property documents.

The Revenue Department has been designated as the nodal department for implementing the scheme.

The government has already created the required institutional framework and expects financial support from the Centre to accelerate implementation.

PM-UDAY Assistance Centres to Be Established in All 13 Districts

Under the proposed plan, PM-UDAY assistance cells will be established in all 13 districts of Delhi.

The respective Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) will oversee these centres.

The government has set a target of issuing property-related documents and authorisation letters within 45 days.

Around ₹25 crore has been proposed for establishing and operating these assistance centres.

Digital Survey and Mapping of 1,511 Colonies Planned

A major component of the property rights initiative will be a technology-driven digital survey and mapping exercise.

Around ₹65 crore has been proposed for:

  • Land surveys
  • Digital mapping
  • Physical verification of properties
  • Updating land records

Through the DRISHTI system, the government aims to create accurate digital records of properties in all 1,511 unauthorised colonies.

The initiative is expected to improve transparency and reduce property-related disputes.

Awareness Campaign Planned to Help Residents Access Benefits

To increase public participation, the Delhi Government has proposed a ₹10 crore awareness campaign.

The campaign will include:

  • Workshops with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs)
  • Help desks
  • Single-window camps
  • Information on eligibility, application process and timelines

The objective is to ensure that eligible residents can easily access property rights benefits.

₹11.25 Crore Project Approved to Strengthen Mungeshpur Drain Safety

The Delhi Government has approved a project worth more than ₹11.25 crore to improve safety and infrastructure along the Mungeshpur Drain.

The project, approved by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, includes:

  • Construction of safety walls on both sides of the drain
  • Development of inspection paths
  • Strengthening of drain embankments
  • Removal of vegetation and obstruction

The project aims to improve monitoring, prevent erosion and ensure smoother water drainage during the monsoon season.

Mungeshpur Drain Work to Be Completed in Two Phases

The project will be executed in two phases:

First Phase:

  • Work from chainage 4600 metres to 9000 metres
  • Construction of safety walls and inspection paths
  • Estimated cost: ₹9.08 crore
  • Completion target: Four months

Second Phase:

  • Work from chainage 3350 metres to 4600 metres
  • Estimated cost: ₹2.17 crore
  • Completion target: Three months

During construction, strong safety barriers including jersey barriers will be installed to reduce accident risks.

Focus on Safer and More Developed Delhi

The Centre’s financial support and Delhi Government’s infrastructure initiatives aim to improve connectivity, public transport, urban safety and citizen services.

From large-scale infrastructure projects to property rights reforms and flood management measures, the initiatives are focused on creating a more efficient, modern and citizen-friendly Delhi.
