Gorakhpur: The Uttar Pradesh government is set to mark International Labour Day with a significant welfare initiative for workers’ families in the Gorakhpur division. On May 1, a grand mass wedding ceremony will be held at the famous Champa Devi Park in Gorakhpur, where around 200 daughters of labourers will begin their new married lives.
The event is being organized under the “Kanya Vivah Sahayata Yojana” of the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, aiming to support economically weaker workers who are unable to bear the financial burden of marriage ceremonies.
Mass Wedding Ceremony at Champa Devi Park
The large-scale event will take place at Champa Devi Park, starting at 11 AM, with full preparations already completed by the Labour Department.
Families from four districts—Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Deoria, and Kushinagar—will participate in the ceremony. The weddings of all 200 couples will be conducted in a single organized event, ensuring dignity and equal celebration for every bride. Senior officials have confirmed that special arrangements are in place to ensure comfort for families attending during the summer heat.
₹1 Lakh Assistance Per Couple Under Government Scheme
Each newly married couple will receive a total financial assistance of ₹1 lakh from the government.
Breakdown of Assistance:
- ₹85,000 directly transferred to the bride’s bank account
- ₹15,000 allocated for wedding arrangements and event expenses
This financial support is designed to help brides start their new life with financial stability while reducing the economic burden on their families.
Labour Minister and Leaders to Attend Ceremony
The event will be attended by Uttar Pradesh Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar, along with several senior officials and political leaders. They will bless the newlywed couples and participate as hosts in the ceremony, reinforcing the government’s outreach to labour communities.
Government’s Welfare Message for Workers
According to Deputy Labour Commissioner Shaktisen, the initiative sends a strong message that workers are not alone and the government stands with them in times of need.
The administration has emphasized that all arrangements, from venue setup to wedding logistics, will be fully handled by the department so that families do not have to take loans or face financial stress.
A Step Toward Social Equality and Women Empowerment
Beyond being a welfare initiative, the mass wedding programme highlights the government’s focus on social equality and dignity for women.
By supporting 200 labourer families on a single platform, the initiative aims to:
- Reduce financial burden on poor families
- Promote women empowerment
- Ensure dignified marriage ceremonies
- Strengthen social inclusion among workers
The Labour Day mass wedding in Gorakhpur is expected to bring happiness to hundreds of families while showcasing the Uttar Pradesh government’s commitment to worker welfare. The initiative stands as a major step toward combining social support with cultural celebration, ensuring dignity and assistance for economically weaker sections.
