Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to strengthen the rural economy by developing one model village in each development block with a special focus on agriculture and horticulture.
The direction was issued during a meeting of the Uttarakhand Agricultural Produce Marketing Board held at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.
The initiative aims to use local resources, traditional knowledge, and modern farming techniques to boost rural development across the state.
Three-Year Action Plan to Boost Farmers’ Income
CM Dhami instructed the board to prepare a detailed three-year action plan prioritizing farmers’ welfare.
He emphasized that all agricultural schemes must focus on:
- Increasing farm productivity
- Reducing cultivation costs
- Ensuring higher income for farmers
He reiterated that the interests of farmers must remain the top priority in every government initiative.
Region-Specific Crop Planning Based on Soil and Climate
The Chief Minister directed officials to carefully study each region’s geographical conditions, climate, soil quality, and local requirements.
He said this scientific approach will help determine which fruits, vegetables, and crops can be cultivated most effectively in different parts of Uttarakhand.
According to him, such planned and region-specific farming can help the state build a stronger identity in agriculture and horticulture.
Promotion of Oilseed Crops for Agricultural Diversification
CM Dhami stressed the need to promote oilseed crops such as:
- Mustard
- Sesame
- Sunflower
- Soybean
He said encouraging these crops will support agricultural diversification and provide better financial returns to farmers.
Focus on Organic Farming and Modern Technology
The Chief Minister also emphasized expanding organic farming across Uttarakhand.
He directed officials to ensure that farmers benefit directly from agricultural research and modern technologies.
He also encouraged the use of:
- Biogas plants
- Solar-powered irrigation pumps
- Advanced farming tools
Digital Platforms and Farmer Training Initiatives
CM Dhami instructed officials to strengthen marketing support for farmers by promoting digital sales platforms for agricultural produce.
He also called for large-scale agricultural seminars and training programs across the state in collaboration with institutions such as Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology.
These programs will help farmers access:
- Advanced farming techniques
- Quality seeds and fertilizers
- Modern agricultural knowledge
With a strong focus on model villages, organic farming, crop diversification, and digital agriculture, the Uttarakhand government aims to transform the rural economy. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s three-year action plan is expected to enhance farmer income and promote sustainable agricultural development across the state.
