Gujarat Govt Announces ₹1 Lakh Assistance and Loan Support for Ahmedabad Traders Hit by Heavy Rains

Relief package on the lines of Surat model covers eligible shopkeepers, hawkers, street vendors and commercial establishments affected by heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad.

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has announced a special financial assistance and rehabilitation package for traders, shopkeepers, hawkers and street vendors affected by recent heavy rains in Ahmedabad. The decision was taken during the state Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, with the relief measures being introduced on the lines of the package earlier implemented in Surat.

The assistance is aimed at helping affected businesses recover from rain-related losses, restart operations and restore economic activity in Ahmedabad.

Financial Assistance Package Approved for Affected Traders

Government spokesperson and Minister Jitu Vaghani said the state government has approved a financial rehabilitation assistance package for traders, hawkers and shopkeepers affected by heavy rainfall in Ahmedabad district and areas under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

The package will cover both small and large traders, along with self-employed people and street vendors who have suffered losses due to the heavy rains.

The government said the initiative is intended to provide immediate support to affected business owners and help them resume their livelihoods.

Cash Assistance for Street Vendors and Small Business Owners

Under the relief package, lump-sum cash assistance will be provided to several categories of affected businesses and vendors.

The beneficiaries will include:

  • Handcart vendors.
  • Street vendors and hawkers.
  • Owners of small cabins.
  • Owners of large cabins.
  • Other eligible traders and shopkeepers in affected areas.

The financial assistance is expected to help these businesses restart operations after suffering losses due to the heavy rainfall.

Shop Owners to Receive ₹1 Lakh Assistance

The Gujarat government has also announced direct financial assistance for eligible shop owners.

According to Minister Jitu Vaghani, shop owners who have filed their GST returns for the last quarter will receive lump-sum cash assistance of ₹1,00,000.

The assistance is intended to provide immediate financial relief to eligible shopkeepers and support them in restoring their business activities.

Loan Support for Large Shops and Commercial Establishments

The relief package also includes measures to facilitate access to institutional finance for affected businesses.

Traders, owners of large shops and permanent commercial establishments that have filed their GST returns for the last quarter will be facilitated in obtaining loans from banks and financial institutions.

The state government will initiate the necessary process to extend financial assistance to eligible affected business units, helping them meet their financial requirements and recover from the losses caused by the heavy rains.

Government Focuses on Reviving Ahmedabad’s Business Activity

Minister Jitu Vaghani said the Gujarat government has consistently remained sensitive to the needs of different sections of society and has supported traders and self-employed citizens during difficult times.He highlighted the importance of Ahmedabad as the economic heart of Gujarat, stressing that the government is committed to helping businesses recover from rain-related losses.The financial assistance package is expected to help affected traders regain confidence, restart their businesses and contribute to the revival of economic activity in the city and surrounding areas.

Relief Package Follows Surat Model

The special assistance package for Ahmedabad has been approved on the lines of the relief package implemented in Surat.

The move reflects the state government’s approach of providing targeted financial support to traders and small businesses affected by extreme weather events.

Gujarat Government’s Key Relief Measures

The special financial assistance package includes several measures aimed at supporting affected businesses:

  • Lump-sum cash assistance for eligible handcart vendors and street vendors.
  • Financial support for owners of small and large cabins in affected areas.
  • ₹1 lakh lump-sum cash assistance for eligible shop owners who have filed their GST returns for the last quarter.
  • Facilitation of bank and financial institution loans for eligible traders and owners of large shops.
  • Support for permanent commercial establishments that meet the prescribed GST filing criteria.
  • Government-led efforts to provide financial assistance to affected business units and help revive commercial activity.

The Gujarat government’s latest announcement is aimed at providing financial relief to businesses affected by heavy rainfall while supporting the recovery and restoration of Ahmedabad’s local economy.
