Vadnagar: The Government of Gujarat officially launched the 24th edition of the statewide Shala Praveshotsav 2026 from B.N. High School, Vadnagar in Mehsana district. The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, marking the beginning of the annual school enrollment and education awareness drive across the state.
The programme was held at B.N. High School, Vadnagar—the historic school where Prime Minister Narendra Modi received his early education.
Around 390 children were enrolled in schools during the launch event as part of the campaign.
Vadnagar Event Highlights Focus on Education Transformation
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life journey stands as a powerful example of how determination, discipline, and education can transform an ordinary student into a leader of global recognition.
He stated that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, India has witnessed expanded opportunities in education, skill development, and youth empowerment.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Gujarat’s education system has undergone a major transformation since the launch of Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani Campaign in 2003, initiatives that have significantly improved school enrollment across the state.
Gujarat Achieves Near-Universal Enrollment, Dropout Rate Below 1%
According to the government’s statement during the event, Gujarat’s education sector has seen remarkable progress over the years:
- School enrollment has reached nearly 100 percent
- Dropout rate has reduced from 37 percent to less than 1 percent
The Chief Minister credited sustained government efforts, teacher involvement, and community participation for this achievement.
He also appreciated teachers for re-enrolling 24 children in Vadnagar who had previously dropped out of school.
Technology and Teacher Engagement Strengthen Education System
The Chief Minister highlighted the role of technology in identifying out-of-school children. Teachers actively track student attendance and, in cases of absence, directly contact parents to ensure timely intervention.
He stressed that education is a shared responsibility between the government and parents, urging families to actively support their children’s schooling and learning continuity.
‘Namo Lakshmi’ and ‘Namo Saraswati’ Schemes Supporting Girls’ Education
The state government’s initiatives to promote education among girls and science students were also highlighted during the programme.
- Under the Namo Lakshmi Scheme, girls studying in Standards 9 to 12 receive financial assistance of ₹50,000
- Under the Namo Saraswati Scheme, students pursuing science education receive ₹25,000 assistance
Officials noted that both schemes have shown positive outcomes in strengthening girls’ education in Gujarat.
CM’s Message to Students: Focus on Studies, Reduce Screen Time
Addressing students, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel advised them to maintain discipline in daily life and focus on education. He encouraged students to:
- Limit mobile phone usage and television time
- Follow proper time management
- Respect parents and teachers
- Stay dedicated to academic goals
He emphasized that success in life is achievable through discipline and consistent effort.
Students Take Over Event Management; CM Appreciates Initiative
A notable feature of the programme was that students themselves managed all arrangements, including stage coordination, guest reception, and vote of thanks.
The Chief Minister appreciated the students for demonstrating leadership, confidence, and organizational skills during the event.
Pledge on Traffic Safety and Tree Plantation Drive
As part of the social awareness initiative, all students present took a pledge to follow traffic rules.
At the conclusion of the programme, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel planted a tree on the school premises, reinforcing the message of environmental conservation.
He also held discussions with members of the School Management Committee and governing body regarding educational quality and development.
