IAS 2024 Batch Trainees Visit REC Limited to Understand India’s Energy Financing and Power Sector Initiatives

Gurugram: A batch of IAS officer trainees from the 2024 batch visited the corporate office of REC Limited in Gurugram as part of an exposure programme conducted under the guidance of the Ministry of Power.

The visit offered the Assistant Secretaries an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of how one of India’s leading infrastructure financing institutions supports the development of the country’s power sector and energy transition.

Overview of REC’s Role in India’s Power Infrastructure

The programme began with a welcome session and an introductory presentation outlining REC’s mandate, business outlook and broad operational footprint.

Senior officials briefed the trainees on the company’s core lending activities, financial performance and contribution to financing transmission, distribution, renewable energy and other critical infrastructure projects across India.

REC Limited, formerly known as Rural Electrification Corporation, plays a pivotal role in funding projects that strengthen electricity access, grid modernization and sustainable energy development nationwide.

Presentation on Flagship Government Schemes

A detailed presentation highlighted two major national initiatives:

  • PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
  • Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme

Officials explained how REC serves as a key financing and implementation partner in these programmes, helping accelerate rooftop solar adoption, improve power distribution infrastructure and enhance operational efficiency of electricity utilities.

Exposure to Energy Financing and Public Policy

The interaction enabled the IAS trainees to better understand the intersection of public administration, infrastructure finance and national energy policy.

As future administrators, the officers were introduced to the financial and institutional mechanisms that support large-scale government programmes and strategic infrastructure investments.

REC Extends Best Wishes to Future Civil Servants

The visit concluded with REC Limited extending its best wishes to the IAS officer trainees for successful and impactful careers in public service.

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to sharing knowledge and engaging with young administrators who will play a critical role in shaping India’s development agenda.
