Chennai: Senior IAS officer Jayashree Muralidharan, a 2002-batch officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre and widely regarded as a trusted aide of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, has opted for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), months ahead of her scheduled superannuation.
Currently serving as Principal Secretary to the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, Jayashree is set to be relieved from service on April 30, bringing an early end to a distinguished bureaucratic career spanning over two decades.
Early Exit Despite Nine Months Left in Service
Jayashree had originally been due to retire in January 2027. However, she applied for VRS on January 30, choosing to step down nearly nine months before completing her tenure.
Sources indicate that she is likely to transition to the private sector following her retirement, with reports suggesting a possible role with the TVS Group.
A Trusted Officer in Jayalalithaa’s Administration
Jayashree Muralidharan is best known for her close professional association with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
During Jayalalithaa’s tenure, she served as Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister, a role that placed her in the inner circle of governance. Her proximity to the top leadership was particularly evident during her tenure as District Collector of Tiruchy between 2011 and 2014.
At the time, Jayalalithaa represented the Srirangam constituency, which falls under Tiruchy district, leading to frequent official interactions and strengthening their professional rapport.
