New Delhi: Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) have signed a Right of Use (RoU) Sharing Agreement for the Duliajan Feeder Line (DFL), a 175-km natural gas pipeline project in Assam. The agreement was signed during the Northeast Region Gas Conclave on October 10, 2026, to strengthen gas transportation infrastructure and connect gas fields in Upper Assam to the North East Gas Grid.

The proposed pipeline has an estimated investment of ₹1,325 crore and is designed to transport up to 3.5 million standard cubic metres of gas per day (MMSCMD). The project will connect CGGS-Madhuban in Duliajan to SV-14 of IGGL’s Guwahati-Nagaland Pipeline (GNPL) in Jorhat, improving the integration of regional gas resources with the wider gas grid.

IGGL-ONGC Agreement: Key Details of the Duliajan Feeder Line

The Right of Use Sharing Agreement will allow IGGL to utilise part of ONGC’s existing pipeline corridor for the Duliajan Feeder Line.

Key details of the project include:

  • Companies involved: Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and ONGC
  • Agreement: Right of Use (RoU) Sharing Agreement

  • Agreement date: October 10, 2026
  • Pipeline length: 175 km
  • Pipeline diameter: 24 inches
  • Designed capacity: 3.5 MMSCMD
  • Estimated investment: ₹1,325 crore
  • Starting point: CGGS-Madhuban, Duliajan
  • Connection point: SV-14 of IGGL’s GNPL pipeline in Jorhat, Assam

Duliajan Feeder Line to Connect Upper Assam Gas Fields to the North East Gas Grid

The 175-km Duliajan Feeder Line is planned to connect gas infrastructure in Duliajan with IGGL’s GNPL pipeline in Jorhat. This connection will link gas fields in Upper Assam to the North East Gas Grid, supporting the transportation and distribution of natural gas across the region.

With a designed capacity of 3.5 MMSCMD, the pipeline will add to the region’s gas transportation infrastructure and strengthen connectivity between gas production areas and the broader pipeline network.

The project represents an important step towards developing an integrated gas transmission system in Northeast India.

Sharing ONGC’s Existing Corridor to Reduce Project Impact

Under the agreement, IGGL will use approximately 53 km of ONGC’s existing Right of Use corridor for the proposed feeder pipeline.

The shared-corridor approach is expected to offer several benefits:

  • Reduced land acquisition: Using an existing corridor will minimise the need to acquire additional land.
  • Lower environmental impact: Reusing existing infrastructure corridors can help limit the project’s impact on surrounding areas.
  • Cost optimisation: Sharing the corridor is expected to improve project cost efficiency.
  • Faster implementation: The arrangement is intended to help expedite project execution.

The collaboration reflects the two companies’ focus on coordinated infrastructure development and more efficient utilisation of existing resources.

IGGL and ONGC Support an Integrated National Gas Grid

The agreement highlights the importance of cooperation between energy companies in developing natural gas infrastructure. By connecting Upper Assam’s gas fields to the North East Gas Grid, the Duliajan Feeder Line is expected to strengthen regional pipeline connectivity.

The initiative also aligns with the broader objective of building a stronger and more integrated national gas grid while promoting sustainable infrastructure development in Northeast India.
