Gujarat: IPL and Jain Irrigation Sign MoU to Promote Sustainable Sugarcane Farming with Drip Irrigation

Partnership will support modern irrigation solutions, farmer training, precision agriculture and water-efficient practices to improve sugarcane productivity and farmers’ income.

Gandhinagar: Indian Potash Limited (IPL) and Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (JISL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote scientific, sustainable, and technology-driven sugarcane cultivation in Gujarat.

The agreement was signed at the IPL Corporate Office in New Delhi and aims to encourage farmers to adopt modern agricultural practices through advanced irrigation solutions, capacity building, and field-level demonstrations.

IPL and JISL Join Hands to Improve Sugarcane Farming Practices

Under the partnership, IPL and JISL will collaborate to strengthen sugarcane farming by promoting efficient irrigation and precision agriculture techniques.

The initiative will focus on the survey, design, supply, and installation of drip irrigation systems, along with farmer training programmes and on-field demonstrations to help cultivators understand and adopt modern farming methods.

Focus on Drip Irrigation and Water-Efficient Agriculture

The collaboration aims to improve water management in sugarcane cultivation by encouraging the use of advanced irrigation technologies.

Key areas of cooperation include:

  • Promoting efficient irrigation and fertigation solutions for sustainable sugarcane farming.
  • Demonstrating modern irrigation systems and precision-based agricultural practices.
  • Supporting better management of agricultural inputs.
  • Creating awareness among farmers through workshops, training sessions, and field demonstrations.
  • Encouraging adoption of advanced farming techniques to improve productivity and crop quality.

Support for Farmers Through Training and Financial Assistance

As part of the MoU, IPL and JISL will work together to help eligible farmers access financial support for adopting micro-irrigation systems.

The partnership will support farmers through:

  • Capacity-building programmes.
  • Technical guidance on modern irrigation practices.
  • Assistance in accessing loans and subsidy support for micro-irrigation adoption.

These measures are expected to help increase sugarcane production, improve crop quality, reduce cultivation costs, and enhance farmers’ income.

Supporting India’s Sugar and Biofuel Sector Goals

The initiative aligns with national objectives of increasing sugar production efficiency and improving water-use efficiency in agriculture.

By promoting sustainable sugarcane cultivation practices, the partnership aims to contribute to the long-term growth of India’s sugar and biofuel sectors while conserving valuable water resources.

JISL Highlights Benefits of Drip Irrigation Adoption

Speaking about the partnership, Giridhar Loh, State Head–Gujarat, Jain Irrigation Systems Limited, said that the collaboration will play an important role in accelerating the adoption of drip irrigation in sugarcane farming.

He highlighted that improved irrigation efficiency will help increase crop productivity, reduce farming costs, enhance farmers’ income, and support sustainable development of India’s sugar and biofuel industries.

IPL and JISL Commitment Towards Sustainable Agriculture

The MoU reflects the shared commitment of IPL and JISL to empower sugarcane farmers through innovative technologies and practical agricultural solutions.

Through improved irrigation systems, knowledge sharing, and farmer-focused initiatives, the partnership aims to build a more productive, sustainable, and water-efficient sugarcane farming ecosystem in Gujarat.
